Alternativa

The curatorial team has recently been appointed for the 2012 exhibitions of Alternativa in Gdansk.

Alternativa is a two-year pilot program aimed at establishing a recurring large-scale, knowledge-based and politically informed curatorial practice whose distribution will be through exhibition aims, publications, workshops and radio broadcasts in the Gdansk Shipyard. Leire Vergara, Ines Moreira, Arne Hendriks and Alternativa Artistic Director, Aneta Szylak, will work around the notion of materiality for the 2012 edition, whilst Ewa Tatar and Dominik Kuryłek will work from the Wyspa’s archives, looking at early artistic practices that have influenced the stance and forms of work being practiced at Wyspa Institute of Art today. Krzysztof Gutfrański continues to work as a Head of Publications at Alternativa Editions.

Konstantin Dimopoulos – The Shower Room

Konstantin Dimopoulos
The Shower Room

Until 8 October 2011 at the Conny Dietzschold Gallery, Sydney, Australia

‘Transformation’ is the focus of this new installation by Konstantin Dimopoulos. The black-and-white Bergman-like images, seemingly crafted from some Nordic or Barbaric lands, are transplanted effortlessly here in this Antipodean landscape. In The Shower Room, Dimopoulos creates a series of modular shower units, five in total. Each stand-alone work is 3 meters in height, made of black steel, with a shower unit held on five stem pediments. The dark spider-like legs, long and extended, splay outwards from the centre of the shower, each leg sitting on castors that allow them to move freely. Their mobility is a statement in itself, the portability of ideas.

“Faux” – Dada Samarelli

From the topic of fake in art, an artistic project represented by a photographic exhibition at  Castello Svevo in Bari, Italy (from September 28th to October 28th, 2011) is now born.

Representation truly has the power of falsification, everybody likes fakes, it’s a human, impulsive feeling” (Fernando Pessoa about fake in art).

It’s a fascinating theme in which many Italian and European essays have been interested. FAUX is the name that the photographer Adele Samarelli gave to this project, that is taking shape in the exhibition at Castello Svevo, made by the cultural association “La Corte, photography and research”.

15 International Art Fair ART MOSCOW

From September 21st to 25th, the International Art Fair ART MOSCOW, the principal annual event on the Russian art calendar focusing on contemporary art, will be held at the Central House of Artists.

ART MOSCOW is held annually, presenting to the public new works, names and galleries and each year it develops and evolves. This year the number of specialists in the Expert Council increased with the introduction of international professionals from Great Britain (Rachael Barrett) and Germany (Anne Maier). The structure of the exposition area has also been altered. Following the international model, ART MOSCOW now offers a system of equal exposition area. Galleries are offered to stand out for the quality of their expositions but not for their size. During the build up to the 2011 ART MOSCOW, presentations have taken place at other key international art events in Berlin, Cologne, London, Madrid and Basel. This has resulted in an increased number of international exhibitors and an expanding pool of international mass-media interest.
