Malina Wieczorek

Malina Wieczorek – an internationally recognised artist and social activist – graduated with distinction from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In recent years her works have been shown in Venice, London, Warsaw, Milan, Brussels, Miami, Madrid, Dubai, Barcelona, Paris, Tokyo and on Times Square in New York, while one of her paintings appeared in the American edition of Vogue Manhattan in the “New Faces in Art” section. She is also a respected expert in social marketing, owner of the TELESCOPE agency, founder of the MS-Fight for Yourself Foundation and president of the House of Creative Thought.

Malina Wieczorek, an artist with an exceptional capacity for introspective exploration, opens before us the doors to the deepest layers of existence. Her work, rooted in personal experience and philosophical reflection, transcends the boundaries of painting and becomes a profound investigation into the essence of life. Presenting cycles such as “The Hatching of Identity”, “Terra Ignota”, “Women and Planets” and “Madonnas”, she invites an introspective exploration of birth, transformation and the spiritual dimension of being. Her paintings, marked by earthy colours and rough texture, evoke archetypal symbols of the world axis, seeds of life and the unity of matter and spirit, reflecting the cyclical nature of existence.

The central motif of her oeuvre remains the idea of “hatching” – the act of the emergence of new life, identity and consciousness. Vertical axes and spherical forms, set in earthy tones, summon archetypal symbols of the axis mundi, embryonic beginnings and the link between matter and spirit. The rough texture and raw aesthetics of the works reflect the authenticity of processes of creation, destruction and rebirth, inviting the viewer to contemplate the cyclicality of existence. The “Hatching of Identity” cycle explores the intimate journey of the individual in search of self, “Terra Ignota” opens unknown territories of nature and the universe, while “Madonnas” reinterprets the spiritual dimension of being.

In “Act, Sign of Purple”, the pulsating purple shape – symbolising blood as the source of life, suffering and rebirth – becomes a metaphor for an unknown land: a spiritual and existential space inspired by mythical Gaia. The intense purple, evoking blood, touches both the biological dimension of femininity and the emotional and spiritual archetypes of existence, pain and healing, reflecting the artist’s personal journey. In the “Women and Planets” cycle, the artist intertwines feminine identity with cosmic harmony, revealing universal aspects of human experience. Works such as “Woman and Sun” broaden the exploration to include masculinity and cosmic balance. Meanwhile, “Madonnas” redefine sanctity by merging classical iconography with local motifs. “My Madonnas refer both to classical iconography and to identities connected with ancient local cultures,” the artist emphasises. “I replaced the classical aureole with a pattern from folk rolling pins; sometimes that aureole is placed to the side, redefining its manner of presentation.” These works, marked by ambiguity and multilayered interpretation, challenge the discourse on femininity and holiness, encouraging viewers to engage with the art on a deeply personal level. “It is precisely this possibility of auto-interpretation – depending on the viewer’s phase of life, personal history and mood – that I find most intriguing,” she adds.

The latest works, which the artist will present in May and June 2026 during the RITUALS exhibition of the ANIMA MUNDI festival organised by ITSLIQUID, accompanying the 61st Venice Biennale of Art, focus on two key cycles: Madonnas and Terra Ignota. Both paintings – “Act, Woman Inscribed in Tapestry” and “Act, Body of the World” – are inscribed in the central motif of her work: the axis of transcendence, understood as the line connecting matter to spirit, the individual to the cosmos, the present to primordial memory.

In “Act, Woman Inscribed in Tapestry” Wieczorek performs a radical gesture: the female body becomes an element of the patchwork of time, “sewn” into an ancient fabric of narrative. The elongated, organic form in deep crimson and violet – leafy, reminiscent of the yoni-lotus of tantric tradition – emerges from the rough, cracked background resembling an old arras. Yet the key element is the figure’s spine: not an integral part of the body, but an extension of the arras – a thread of ancient fabric woven into the core of the figure. The new incarnation must bend along the ancient seams and cracks; the purity of rebirth does not erase heritage. In this way, the artist redefines the Madonna iconography: sanctity does not transcend the earth – it is rooted in it, at times protective, at times painful.

„Act, Body of the World”, in turn, takes one step further toward absolute unity. The body ceases to be a vessel – it becomes a window onto infinity. The deepest truth of the painting lies in the fact that the motifs – pulsating spirals, fractal branchings, ancestral lines – are not “painted on” the surface; they are the interior. The woman’s body is reduced to the subtlest membrane, an almost transparent veil whose sole task is not to obstruct. At the centre of the lower abdomen – where mystics located the gate between worlds – there is no allegory: there is the living core of the universe. The ornaments are simultaneously a map of the stars, a neural network, blood vessels and the pulsation of origin; they do not represent – they are. There is no separation between “I” and “everything” – only flow, throbbing, permeability. Divinity is not “there” – it is here, in the pulsating substance before any name.

Malina Wieczorek’s works, filled with symbolism and personal introspection, provoke confrontation with questions about the meaning of existence, offering space for individual discovery. As she herself emphasises: “This is the contemporary rediscovery of the core of humanity, which is being born before our eyes, connecting us with nature and the universe in a process of co-creation and transformation. […] Art that prompts deep reflection on who a woman is, who a human being is at the deepest level, must always remain in respect for the culture of the region of the world and, perhaps above all, in respect for the human being. Only then does it effectively encourage wise discussion and an attempt at a full understanding of life.”
