All Together Now: Sound × Design
Design Museum of Chicago
November 13, 2021 – April 03, 2022
Sound is what happens when air is pushed. Design is what happens when space is manipulated. Together, the two share many similar characteristics, yet their work rarely overlaps. From Nov. 13, 2021 through April 3, 2022, the Design Museum of Chicago will explore these similarities in their upcoming exhibition, All Together Now: Sound x Design. In collaboration with the City of Chicago’s Year of Chicago Music, this exhibition celebrates the parallels between sound and music.

Through the work of 24 artists, designers, and musicians from across the country, All Together Now showcases the integral part music has played in Chicago’s creative culture. Chosen by a blind jury selection process from over 70 submissions, these pieces integrate contemporary and historic work. The exhibition will be displayed in the City of Chicago Expo 72 Gallery at 72 E. Randolph and will be free to the public.

About the Design Museum of Chicago: Formerly the Chicago Design Museum, the organization was founded in 2012 as an entirely volunteer-run organization that planned and executed pop-up exhibitions. In 2014, after two years of successful itinerant programming, more than 500 backers supported a Kickstarter campaign to provide funding for the museum to operate year-round. Beginning with a single staff member, the museum now mounts at least 2 exhibitions per year, has hosted hundreds of public programs, and engaged with more than 175,000 visitors.
