As an undergraduate Lora studied ceramic sculpture and continued to express herself through clay for many years. She threw and hand built vessels but desired more color, depth on the surface of her sculpture. She loved the work of Peter Voulkos who is best known for his abstract expressionist Interpretation of ceramic sculpture. While visiting Betty Woodmans’ ceramic studio in Italy She was struck by her use of bright color and bold gestural marks.

I am interested in expressing myself artistically into the innerness of people, relationships between them and the true events, working daily on meanings, thoughts and concerns. I believe that art research can infiltrate to deeper fields and the art language can express fields beyond words. Τhis portraiture research gives us the opportunity of more ascertainments, awareness of interaction, protest, admittance, extended processing and meaningful conversation. I am also interested in our attitude towards the environment as also the position of women in the society and at times I have presented works on these subjects.

SiG’s work is extensive, experimental, and full of symbolism. It is inhabited by the most varied images of different times or artistic periods, these references are mixed with an iconography, which is in principle alien, to build a absolutely original and different speech; the works provoke a new reading in a paradigmatic framework; they acquire a meaning open to reflection in the viewer.

For 30 years I have worked with a combination of collage and painting and I’m still as fascinated by the surprising possibilities of combination that can arise in this method of creating. I always start the work with preparing a workspace by scraping out paint in several layers until I feel unrestricting possibilities have arisen. After this the artistic process can start in an interacting combination of painting and collage which most often takes place at the floor of the studio where I have easy access to collage materials spread out over the floor wherein I use trial and error by adding and removing chosen material.
