Balenciaga master of lace

Lace has a singular protagonism in the production of Cristóbal Balenciaga, who, thanks to his creativity and deep knowledge of fabrics and with the know-how of the textile industry as an ally, manages to revisit this big accessory of European historical clothing, gaining for it a place of honour within the context of contemporary fashion.

In his creations, lace can be decorative or structural, and it can be used from morning to night. It can drop with its own weight with embroidery or it can “levitate” thanks to the inclusion of ingenious tricks. It can highlight the pattern or clearly manifest the emptiness of transparency.

It can be dyed with the couturier’s famous black colour, or boast the entire palette of tonalities. It can colonise the dress or be the foundation for new and original accessories. An exhibition devoted to highlighting the versatility of the material and the Master’s creativity.
