The new Wafaa Handbag: a tangible expression of conscious luxury
Small yet big in the history of their making, the new Wafaa handbags by BEHUMAN were born from the idea that the emotional content of an object is what makes it charming. Handcrafted using the highest quality leather, Wafaas are a tangible expression of the concept of conscious luxury.
BEHUMAN is the brand founded in 2018 through the partnership between Letizia Maraini and Anna D’Anzi, with a mission to develop original products conceived and created by people living in difficult situations. The company’s goal is that quality, beauty and social justice become the selection criteria in the buying of a fashion product. The production supply chain is totally made in Italy, composed of craft enterprises and “invisible” talents, who otherwise would not have been guaranteed a future in the workplace. In consideration of its particular social value, BEHUMAN obtained a special nomination by the Rome Chamber of Commerce.
The new Wafaa handbag collection, take the name from its creator, Wafaa, a young Moroccan designer who, inspired by contemporary beauty, has developed a particular geometric and immediately recognizable handle. “Becoming a designer has always been my dream since I was a child” – states Wafaa Moukabil – “In my country of birth however I did not have the chance to make this dream a reality. Upon arriving in Italy I began to study and trained as apparel pattern maker at the Ida Ferri Academy and as accessory model maker at the Koefia Academy. I would like to thank BEHUMAN for this chance to break into the world of fashion design”. Moreover, a playful element characterizes this Wafaa collection. An exclusive charm composed by hand- painted leather flowers, signed in person by Tommy, an artist who has picked them in the garden of his many rebel thoughts.
Each Wafaa is a “vessel of optimism” that brings speckles of color to an often too grey and monotonous horizon. Behind each handbag there is the creative and silent work of people who, in different circumstances, would be considered “invisible”. So, choosing a Wafaa means challenging the clichés dictated by appearances.
