Bonsai is an Italian entity that stems from the need to create a concept that identify the philosophy of the brand, focused in a minimal style, seeking to realise a product in which simplicity and research for details are in perfect harmony. It is due to the essential and the neat designs inspired by everyday life, which the cool and unconventional identity of Bonsai takes shape. Born from scratch in 2014 from the idea of two young man, Bonsai has been collecting small amounts of high-quality Italian fabrics, tailoring his creation in collaboration with artisan laboratories. In 2014 they created their first collection by bringing it door to door to the various hops in the area. With their customer perception constantly growing throughout the years, they pursued a development in the sales network in Italy and abroad, also favoured by the cooperation with the important showroom of Riccardo Grassi.
Bonsai Label is nowadays distributed in about 70 physical shops around Italy, in addition to their flagship store located in Bologna. From 2018 Bonsai is also distributed in Japan. In the same year, they launched their ShopOnline bonsaiclothing.com. The name of the brand stems from the desire to create a garment with the same attention, technique, patience and love that we need in the growth and the treatment of a bonsai. The continuous research of fabrics and the attention to details are two key points in the realization of each collection of the brand. Through passion, dedication and patience the brand and the company are configured in a mechanism of innovation and gradual improvement, always maintaining a simple, clean and original design. Through the growth of the brand in the last years, the company wants to connect with the name BONSAI also a reference to the natural world that surrounds us. For this reason sustainability is another fundamental value of Bonsai. They try to collaborate more and more with companies that work through sustainable treatments, dyes and processes to improve the environment of our planet.
Moreover, they carry these values through the graphics and details present in the various collections, because they believe that fashion has an important role in this battle. In this regard, for the spring/summer 2020 collection they were inspired from the Oceans, by highlighting the need of combining the charm of this natural environment with a strong critical approach. In particular, they intend to highlight that global warming and the presence of plastics can produce severe damage to the marine ecosystem, by destroying the splendour of Oceans and the risk of reaching a point of no return. Always with an eye on sustainability, starting from September of this year they collaborate with the start up Zero Co2 which deals with high level social impact reforestation, giving life to the “DO SOMETHING FOR YOUR PLANET” Project, planting a tree for every purchase received on their website.
In search of a contact with nature and a return to the origins of being, fw19 collection is inspired by the mountain world and the concept of outdoor. A collection inspired by the functional elements of a wardrobe, from sportswear and from sports, like climbing and hiking, expertly mixing high-performing garments, technical fabrics like nylon and fleece, street wearability, and metropolitan looks. If the city is the place of gray asphalt and of patchworked bespoke fabrics, the natural habitat vibrated with fluorescent colours and irreverent graphics that express the concept of this collection.
