CALL FOR ARTISTS: LIQUID ROOMS – THE LABYRINTH
Venice International photography, painting, installation, video art and performance art festival
Extended deadline: January 28, 2016

It’s LIQUID Group, in collaboration with International ArtExpo, Ca’ Zanardi and VENICE ART HOUSE, is selecting all interesting video art, photography, painting, installation/sculpture and performance art works to include in the next 2016 exhibition:

LIQUID ROOMS – THE LABYRINTH, Venice International photography, painting, installation, video art and performance art festival. The event is a unique exhibition path hosted in Venice in two different venues: Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and VENICE ART HOUSE Gallery, from February 04 to March 06, 2016. The event will be a mix between contemporary art show and art residency.

LIQUID ROOMS – THE LABYRINTH is part of “Behind the Mask“, official event of Venice Carnival 2016 (February 04-21, 2016). During last Venice Carnival the city of Venice hosted more than 1.000.000 visitors, 300 artists involved, more than 300 accredited journalists from all over the world.

LIQUID ROOMS is an innovative exhibition format divided in 2 sections: the first one consists in art shows hosted February 26-27-28, 2016 in Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi’s private rooms/apartments, that artists can use at the same time as exhibition space and art residency (accommodation included); the second one is the collective show THE LABYRINTH, hosted February 04 to March 06, 2016 in the common area of Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi, and in VENICE ART HOUSE Gallery new space.

LIQUID ROOMS – THE LABYRINTH is an invitation for artists to explore their intimate self and to analyze the relationship between man and space (private and/or public). The exhibition has a dual-layered format which expresses the urban nature of the city of Venice (with all its labyrinthine streets) and the inner labyrinths of our identities. Opening the doors of their rooms to visitors and crossing the exhibition path through the different venues, artists and audience will disclose and explore the intimate part of their art and beings.

The event will be curated by Arch. Luca Curci (director of It’s LIQUID and International ArtExpo) and Andrea Chinellato (curator and director of Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and VENICE ART HOUSE Gallery). The festival’s program will include video art screenings, movies’ projections, live performances and meetings with artists involved.

Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi (Cannaregio 4132, Venice) is a residential palace dating back to the 16th century which, over the centuries, has been added on to by various noble Venetian families and is one of the most evocative and beautiful palaces in the city of Venice. Sumptuous and possessing particular charm, Ca’ Zanardi is located in a most peaceful setting and has its own delightful private garden as well as a magnificent terrace full of sun and colour. Ca’ Zanardi is located close to the Ca’ D’Oro, the splendid 15th century gothic palace along the Grand Canal.  It is easily reachable by foot, after a two minute walk from the Ca’ D’Oro water bus stop, or by boat using the palazzo’s private pier positioned along the fetching Santa Caterina canal. The refined elegance of the palazzo’s halls and common areas and the delicacy of its original 16th century furnishings create a fascinating setting.

BOCHNER BOETTI FONTANA

Curated by Mel Bochner in collaboration with Magazzino Italian Art, This Special Exhibition Examines Parallel Artistic Movements in the 1960s and 1970s in the U.S. and Italy through the artwork of Bochner, Alighiero Boetti, and Lucio Fontana. Cold Spring, NY – August 24, 2020 – This fall, Magazzino Italian Art opens a special exhibition examining the formal, conceptual, and procedural affinities in the work of Mel Bochner, Alighiero Boetti, and Lucio Fontana. Curated by Bochner in collaboration with Magazzino, the exhibition marks the first presentation to consider the American artist’s extensive, yet overlooked, engagement with the practices of Fontana and Boetti, as well as with Italian art at large. Bochner Boetti Fontana offers, through the artist’s perspective, a number of resonances between his work and that of the Italian and Italian-Argentine artists: an exploration of systems, language, and materials; and a sense of irony and humor, often and especially shared by Arte Povera and Conceptualism, as all these works opened the work of art onto the space of display. INTERVIEW: ELSA EGON

Interviews | September 21, 2020

"Art represents for me a 'ligne de vie'. I have been painting since my 15 years: since then, artistic practice has accompanied all my experiences as a girl, woman, mother. My only safety net in the most difficult situations, today represents the way to seek beauty in the objects and materials we use every day. I often work starting from a material that already carries a story in it, because it has been found, extracted and reused. It may perhaps be recognized by the people who had it in their hands. Somehow, it tells a collective story, piecing together, to establish bonds, but at the same time fixing my experiences." Read more
