ITSLIQUID Group, in collaboration with YMX Arts, is pleased to announce the open call for the exhibition MIXING IDENTITIES, third appointment of CANVAS – London International Art Fair. COVID-19 Protection Concept – The health and safety of our staff and visitors are of predominant importance to ITSLIQUID Group. This Protection Concept governs how we intend to operate after the lockdown has ended, the rules that will be applied inside the exhibition spaces and how these will be implemented in practice.

The word “canvas” was used for the first time in Italy in the 14th century and it has become the most common support medium for oil painting, replacing wooden panels. During the centuries, the canvas’ meaning has changed, starting from paintings, throught the photographic and cinematographic film, exploring the human body, to the digital world. Canvas is the creatives’ common ground, on which they can express themselves. We invite all the artists to share their personal artistic research through any kind of media, from painting to sculptures and installation, from photography to videoart and live performance.
The concept of MIXING IDENTITIES is based on the reconstruction of new identities: the transformation of our identities is essential to face the changes of the contemporary world. The process of building ourselves passes through the continuous relations with other people’s identities and the identities of communities, cultures and societies. The event will be focused on the human body as a changing system that connects us with other bodies and spaces to perceive the surrounding reality; a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression. We invite artists to analyze the hidden parts of our identities, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness.
CANVAS consists of 3 main events: THE SKIN PROJECT (September 03 / October 09), OUT OF BALANCE (October 22, 2020 / January 29, 2021) and MIXING IDENTITIES. We are now selecting artists for the following upcoming exhibition:

OUR LOCATION

THE LINE Contemporary Art Space
The Forge building was part of the Victorian iron shipbuilding industry. The imaginative conversion where Craft Central is located, places a free standing birch wood construction within the listed walls. Although some alterations have been made to the structure, much of this exciting building remains intact. The solution is a virtually free standing two storey birch wood construction in two sections running either side of the central listed pillars. This design provides selfcontained studios with a full height exhibition space at the front of the building and bleacher seats as a striking and usable feature which clear the overhead cranes.
The Craft Central is a gallery space daily used to have craftspeople around who want somewhere to work occasionally rather than commit to a full-time studio and who contribute to the art community in The City. The large exhibition space/gallery at the front of the building is 1,000 sqft, excluding the bleacher seats. It is an exhilarating space. You’ll find huge feature windows, exposed brickwork, eight former furnace chimney breasts, old gantries, ironwork and industrial fittings – even two overhead cranes (in full working order!). Craft Central is located in a largely residential area, close to the river and within easy access of the business districts of Canary Wharf and Surrey Quays. Only four stops from Canary Wharf and the Jubilee line (Crossrail station in 2018) two stops from Greenwich.
