nARCHITECTS is part of the winning team headed by James Corner Field Operations for the redesign of Chicago’s Navy Pier. The Pierscape project renovates the exterior spaces along the state of Illinois’ major tourist attraction in time for the 1916 pier’s centennial in 2016.

As one of the centerpieces of the 3000′ (1km) long Pierscape, nARCHITECTS’ Wave Wall provides a grand stair inspired by the Spanish Steps in Rome, connecting the South Dock to the existing elevated plinth with Ferris Wheel and other attractions above while providing a large south-facing social space with views of the lake and access to 400’ of retail spaces below, other contributions by nARCHITECTS include the slender glass Info Tower, and four Lake Pavilions.

Combining boat ticket kiosks with undulating polished stainless steel canopies, the Lake Pavilions will provide shade and shelter along the pier, while reflecting the rippling water of the Lake back into the dock.
