Palazzo Bembo
ITSLIQUID Group, in collaboration with EGO’ Boutique Hotel, is pleased to announce the opening of Color4Venice, a solo exhibition by Annette Werndl, Claudia Hassel, Martina Hamberger and Michael Werndl, that will be held in Venice, at Palazzo Bembo, from July 13 to August 07, 2022. The opening will be on July 13, 2022 from 05:00PM to 09:00PM (follow the event live).

All four artists are united by their work with abstraction and colour. The spectrum ranges from classical colour field painting to abstract expressionism. Each artist has their own signature, colour palette and artistic statement.

Annette Werndl expresses herself through strong colors that are not always in harmony with each other but ultimately ring together. Her powerful application of color is gestural and determined. She works almost exclusively with different palette knives. The “power” mentioned by Werndl is also noticeable in her paintings. The fact that she paints in layers contributes a great deal to this. In the process, color from lower layers penetrates to the surface. Especially when the lower layers are applied with intense colors, it seems as if the entire painting is bubbling under the surface, similar to a volcano. So you can feel dynamics and energy, and again this extends beyond the boundaries of the painting and discharges throughout the room.

Michael Werndl‘s works combine geometric and lyrical forms; his graphic color fields act mainly as purely abstract schemes, while occasionally verging on recognizable iconography and figuration. Some compositions resemble posed subjects or still life tableaux. Werndl’s unique combination of figuration and abstraction is not limited to painting – the artist also makes geometric sculptures in metal and wood.

Martina Hamberger‘s painting is exuberant! Strokes, circles, and planes are the objects of Hamberger’s painterly research. The color palette of primary colors, black, white, and barely intermediate tones is as direct as her short, powerful gestures. Hamberger’s paintings can almost be read like individual sentences. Sometimes perhaps formulated as a question, or as a clear statement, sometimes a terse provocation and then again mischievous babbling. Thus Hamberger’s work oscillates between lightness and playful stubbornness and allows us to participate in an exhilarating experiment.

Claudia Hassel‘s paintings are colorful and abstract, without the desire for recognizable motifs. She works sometimes gestural, sometimes formal, sounding out which color comes forward and which recedes. Thus, a space is created on the two-dimensional image, which the viewer can wander through with his eyes while being immersed in true floods of color. No place is so dominant that the viewer’s gaze remains there. The eye takes pleasure in discovering ever-new color combinations. The depth created by the many superimposed layers is often reminiscent of landscapes, and yet you actually see bright orange, a yellow, a blue.

OUR LOCATION

Palazzo Bembo, located in the historic district of San Marco, the heart of Venice, is available to host solo shows and group exhibitions of the most talented emerging and established artists, designers, and architects selected by our professional team among the numerous show participation requests.
Palazzo Bembo is one of the late Gothic Venetian buildings built in the right middle of the famous Canal Grande, a few meters from the renowned Rialto Bridge. Its name comes from the humanist and literary cardinal Pietro Bembo, known for the so-called “linguistic question” during the Italian XV century.
The facade of the building, with all its gothic pentafore, is as fascinating as the interior which is divided into three floors and characterized by large salons. The seventeenth-century staircase overlooks the internal courtyard that leads to the noble floor, where decorations are dating back to the same century, in Baroque style. The exhibition space, on the first floor, overlooks the Canal Grande and the Rialto Bridge, giving a suggestive view both day and night.
