Concéntrico 07 International Architecture and Design Festival
Logroño, Spain
September 02, 2021 – September 05, 2021

Concéntrico is the International Architecture and Design Festival of Logroño that proposes to reflect on the urban environment and the city. The new edition, Concéntrico 07, will be held from 2 to 5 September 2021. The Festival invites visitors to explore the city through installations, meetings, activities and exhibitions that discuss public space and places of coexistence – all the more relevant at this time of pandemic – with a focus on the sustainability of materials and processes. Since 2015, the festival has brought together in its five editions 73 urban installations created by teams of national and international architects and designers who experiment with new fields of environmental design.

In this way, a dialogue is established between the city, heritage and contemporary architecture that imagines new places of its own and projects an idea about the city. Studios such as Gregor Schneider (Germany), Iza Rutkowska, (Poland), Storey Studio (United Kingdom) Jordi Gali (France), KOGAA (Czech Republic), Mecanismo (Spain), Taneli Mansikkamäki (Finland), Anna & Eugeni Bach (Spain), Plastique Fantastique (Germany), Picado de Blas (Spain), Branco Del Rio (Portugal), G. Santomà (Spain), Mjölk (Czech Republic) have made interventions in the different editions of the festival and join the 18 interventions that will be made this year by Lanza Atelier, Laurent Martin, Matteo Ghidoni – Enrico Dusi, VAPAA Collective, Radu Abraham, Paradigma Ariadné, Herrmann & Coufal, SpY, Aleksandra Wasilkowska, Palma + Hanghar, 44 flavours, hori-zonte, Sauer Martins + Mauricio Méndez, P + S Estudio de Arquitectura, Vivian Rotie + Pablo Saiz del Río, Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja and École Supérieure de Design de Troyes.

The programme is extended in this edition with other activities, such as the meetings and conversations with the support of Acción Cultural Española: International benchmark entities in the field of architecture that share their vision of the sector. Among them will be Bauhaus Dessau Foundation from Germany, Arkki from Finland, the Lisbon Triennial from Portugal, Storefront for Art and Architecture and MAS Context from the United States and Mextrópoli from Mexico.

The seventh edition of Concéntrico expands the usual focus of the festival, the historic centre of Logroño, and connects this area with spaces that allow the creation of new approaches to the urban environment. In addition to the usual spaces, new locations have been added that are a clear example of the objectives of the festival, a project in constant listening that evolves to continue to raise debates that look at the city itself: the Villanueva neighbourhood, the Town Hall Square, the new Intermodal Station, the renovated courtyard of the Museum of La Rioja, and, most notably, the Ebro Park, where three proposals will be located.

The aim of Concéntrico is to intervene in these symbolic places and reinterpret them. In this way, the intimate relationship that exists between contemporary architecture and its capacity to transform people’s lives, as well as inventing new places of its own and projecting an idea about the city, is made evident. The urban character of Concentric is linked to sustainable processes. In this sense, the new locations, selected for their high landscape and ecological value, which seek to strengthen the relationship with the natural space of the river Ebro, the heritage and the history of the context, stand out.

Spaces such as Viña Lanciano, or the new locations on the river, are a good example of this. The management of the projects is focused on the reuse and recycling of the interventions. Also relevant is the base material we use, Garnica wood, which plays a fundamental role in the circular economy, as it is renewable, recyclable, reusable and biodegradable. This area will be extended in 2021 with signage, programmes and exhibitions, using sustainable material.
