Eco-friendly paper mache lamps
Crea-Re Studio run by Maria Fiter offers exclusive and sustainable lamps made from papier mache. Graduated in History of Art in Cracow (Poland) she founded her studio in 2013 in Barcelona. Maria’s work oscillates between art and design. Her passion for sculpture is visible in the organic shapes of every lamp. Each new design project starts as a vision for a series of rough but elegant lamps with a nod to nature. Her works have been featured in Vogue UK, Elle Decoration, Label Magazine, Design Milk, Archiproducts, InteriorDesign.net, Architectural Digest, and Design Anthology UK. She participated in the International Fairs: in London UK (London Design Fair) and Milano Italy (Fuorisalone – Lambrate District). Among her clients and retailers, you can find: Heal’s, Soho House, Sip Stone Restaurant Belfast Airport, Pick Restaurant Kuwait, Sandy Chilewich New York, FRØPT.
Globe: The form of the paper pulp lamp refers to the shape of the Earth. Its “nucleus”, the source of light, brings it to life. When enabled, we’ll see a glowing and full-of-light planet. Its structure – porous and irregular symbolises soil – dry and cracked – was inspired by the paintings of Polish Grupa Nowohucka. The material used for its creation – paper – is being destroyed, broken into tiny pieces, which, in hot temperature again links into a new, completely different entity.”Paper” can be later shaped in many different ways and its final form brings an association with nature, its source. Globe takes part in a collection of lamps connected by the common name “Copernicus”. The lamp is 100% recycled and eco-friendly. It is made entirely from paper pulp obtained using only old newspapers. Use only LED light bulbs up to 20W only. Handmade in Spain.
Drop: The Shape of this paper mache lamp refers to the shape of a drop. The poem by Alan Sorrenti called “Aria” was a source of inspiration for me to create it. In that poem, the speaker embodies drops hanging from his balcony with pearls from the crown of his beloved. “Attraverso i vetri della mia stanza guardo fuori e fuori piove e nelle gocce sospese alla ringhiera vedo le perle della tua corona.” The lamp is 100% recycled and eco-friendly. It is made entirely from paper pulp obtained using only old newspapers.
Jupiter: Paper mache lamp refers to the shape and colour of one of the solar system’s planets – Jupiter. Lamp dominates with its size over the rest of the paper pulp lamps, as well as Jupiter – the largest planet in the solar system. Thanks to an ocher colour the lamp gives a pleasant and warm light. The lamp’s interior, when the lamp is on – seems to radiate the light – the walls of the lamp seem to be golden. Jupiter takes part in a collection of lamps connected by the common name “Copernicus”. The lamp is 100% recycled and eco-friendly. It is made entirely from paper pulp obtained using only old newspapers. Use only LED light bulbs up to 20W only.
Pluto Floor: Belongs to the collection of two lamps whose name refers to the name of the dwarf planet called Pluto. Its structure is changing while orbiting around the Sun and that fact became a source of inspiration for me to create two lamps. Pluto’s internal structure consists of a dense core of rocks surrounded by a mantle of ice. Its orbit is elongated and when Pluto is closer to the Sun – the temperature increases causing the ices to sublimate into gas. The second version of the same “Pluto” lamp is an effect of the reverse phenomenon. As Pluto moves away from the Sun, its atmosphere gradually freezes out and falls to the ground. That’s why I created a floor lamp, with a thick, solid layer of paper, much heavier than in the first one. This version of the lamp refers also to its shape to the Disney cartoon character Pluto the Pup – the dog of Mickey Mouse. Lamp is 100% recycled and eco-friendly. It is made entirely from paper pulp obtained using only old newspapers.
Morphe is the name of a series of paper mâché lamps. The term, derived from Greek, means “shape”. The form of lamps has many connotations with zoomorphic or amorphous shapes like eggs, mushrooms, and oblong stones riddled by sea waves. Their smooth and oval surface is accentuated by irregular recesses, and unique wrinkles in each of the lamps. These elements give them a certain uniqueness and exclusivity. Each lamp is different and unrepeatable. Morphe lamps are very lightweight and durable and can be an essential element of any interior decor. Lamps are available in several colours obtained from natural pigments. The material used in their production, paper, was obtained from the recycling of old newspapers and ecological, certified water-based glue. All these components, as well as the process of lamp formation, are environmentally friendly and ecological. Lamps are compostable.
Sensi is the name of a series of paper mâché lamps that derives from the words “senses”, and “sensitivity”. The lamps are inspired by the sensuality and mystery of the human body. Soft lines, pastel hues and seductive texture create an intriguing form. Their smooth and oval surface is accentuated by irregular recesses and unique wrinkles. Each lamp is an example of exquisite design. It’s a synthesis of sculpture and artistry – it’s a piece of art. Sensi lamps add character to any space and fill the interior with warm light, setting a very special mood. No two lamps are the same and each piece tells a story. Sensi lamps are very lightweight and durable. They are available in several colours obtained from natural pigments. The materials used in their production are paper obtained from the recycling old newspapers and ecological, certified, water-based glue. All these components, as well as the process of lamp formation, are environmentally friendly and ecological. Lamps are compostable.
Daisy: This wall lamp belongs to the collection of lampshades that are inspired by the shapes existing in nature. The shape of Daisy was a source of inspiration for me to create this wall sconce. When the lamp is ON the light gently reflects on the wall and illuminates the space without disturbing eyes. This lamp is handcrafted entirely from paper pulp waste, water-based glue and wooden wall structure. Therefore it’s 100 % recycled and eco-friendly. The Daisy lamp is available in several colours obtained from natural pigments. Kit includes a lightbulb with a G9 ending. Use LED bulbs up to 10W only. There is a wooden structure that attaches the lampshade to the wall. The lamp can be hardwired or with a cable (2m) and a plug. I enclose adapters for the UK, US and AU.
