Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven

From 21 October to 29 October 2017

 

In October of each year, Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven. The biggest design event in Northern Europe presents work and ideas of more than 2500 designers to more than 295,000 visitors from home and abroad. In more than hundred locations across the city, DDW organises and facilitates exhibitions, lectures, prize ceremonies, networking events, debates and festivities.

DDW is different from other design events, because it concentrates on the designs of the future. Although during the event every imaginable discipline and aspect of design is on offer, the emphasis is on experiment, innovation and cross-overs. Exceptional attention each year goes to work and development of young talent.

Architect Winy Maas (MVRDV), designers Lonny van Ryswyck and Nadine Sterk (Atelier NL) and journalist Marcus Fairs (Dezeen) are the ambassadors for this edition of Dutch Design Week (DDW). New this year is the appointment of not two but three ambassadors. This decision has been taken to underpin the international nature of the ambassadorship, something that all three ambassadors are known for, according to the organisation behind DDW (Dutch Design Foundation).

    How to Build a Low-Carbon Home, a new display which showcases low-carbon approaches to housing construction, is now open at the Design Museum. The free display, open until March 2024, explores construction and architecture in the age of climate breakdown. It focuses on three ancient low-carbon materials - stone, straw and wood - and their potential to enable the UK to address the housing crisis while also meeting climate pledges. Read more
