“Art is the response to the environment and conditions created by it in the neverending cycle of life.”

The girl who was born in the family surrounded by art (her father is well known artist in Latvia)and fairytales about distant lands and flying carpets once discovered that she can “catch” herdreams through creative activities. Even those which has seemed impossible. Years later, following her inner knowing and ever expanding nature, she has become one of those rarefeminine artists who has chosen quite masculine material for her creative journeys. Metal – it’svarious forms and types starting from light aluminium metal sheets to the old rusty rooftops -is Baiba’s playground. It’s like an altar. A large area, that has a strong light and energy fromwhich a special current comes.

Baiba is the artist who always searches for something new, goes away from ordinary andlooks for the unknown ways for her to express her ideas and feelings, a reflection of herpersonal metamorphosis through this material. She is still discovering and loving it more andmore. Metal, which allows her to very accurately reflect the energy around her or given to it. She feels metal as alive, plastic, versatile, deep and, in a sense, eternal in its metamorphosis. Due to these properties, it fits perfectly with the form of realisation of Baiba’s art, because the painting itself transforms in different lighting and angles, allowing for a wide experience of the audience. She offers the viewer to think, to move their imagination, to step into unknown in a way.

Urban environment is one of Baba’s researching fields. Metal synergistically corresponds to the way industrial objects, high-voltage line constructions and their power can be depicted in art. She likes to create and solve the question of so called urban landscapes – the dynamics of the XXI century, the speed of life and the change of the information space.

In her works, she depicts her reflections on the complex relationships in the social and in the urban environment, about the impact of urbanisation and technology on the environment and people, about the screaming emotional hunger caused by alienation in the urban environment. Various available forms of expression allow these feelings to be expressed through materials close to her, supplementing them with technologies, thereby enhancing the message Baba wants to convey.
