Belgenio
Beltrami Eugenio P.M., or as known in the contemporary art scene Belgenio, was born in Milan, Italy. Before becoming an artist, Belgenio graduated in Veterinary Medicine, and continued with creating “Animal Oasis” – a safe haven for pets and elderly animals in Parco Nord Milano. These experiences influenced his artistic approach, which is recognisable by its eclectic technique that blends scientific sensitivity, entrepreneurship, and an introspective vision.

Self-taught and creatively active since youth, Belgenio has always explored drawing and visual expression through multiple techniques. A decisive turning point occurred in 2020, when he embraced a radical and unconventional approach to image-making, defining himself as a “Smartartist.” His works originate digitally in an unconventional sense: Belgenio “draws” on a mobile device using nails, fingertips, and a stylus. These digital abstractions are then transferred and completed on fine art canvas through a complex and tactile process involving gels, oils, restoration pigments, atramentum, gum arabic, beeswax, and heterogeneous materials such as sand, stones, pumice, lava fragments, glass, and shells. This complex process results in a hybrid language where digital immediacy merges with physical matter.
Although varied in size and chromatic intensity, Belgenio’s works are immediately recognisable. Often intense, sometimes restrained colors act as an emotional field in which inner and outer dimensions collide. Each piece reflects a unique psychological and existential state, yet remains coherent within a personal stylistic identity. The finishing touch of his artistic expression is the use of titles. Long and capitalised, poetic yet analytical and socially charged, the titles extend the meaning of artworks.
Belgenio conceives art as a transcendent expression that emerges from lived moments and crystallizes into “plastic works”, giving visual shape to the clashes between the inner soul and external reality. Dreamlike and often tormented, his works evoke impressions of the soul beyond earthly dimensions, suspended between ecstasy and suffering, serenity and violence. They question the nature of being, the illusion of order, and the fragile constructs that define life and death.

His artistic research unfolds through constant introspection, navigating between Sense and Non-Sense, Reason and Feeling. It evokes a Kafkaesque inner metamorphosis alongside Pirandello’s fragmented identity “one, no one, one hundred thousand”. Rather than offering answers, Belgenio’s works invite viewers to dwell within the questions, rather than seek answers.

Central to his vision is also an exploration of social hypocrisy, false certainties, and the fragile concept of dignity in contemporary existence. Belgenio examines a world ruled by contradictions, where apparent harmony masks instability, and humanity oscillates endlessly between Good and Evil. These reflections often converge on the symbolic ambiguity of the letter D: Destiny, God, Design, Dimension, an omnipresent force in which individuals find themselves immersed, used, and using, in a life that seems to belong to everyone and to no one at once.
Belgenio’s art does not aim to comfort. It seeks to transmit emotion, provoke introspection, and expose the fragile structures beneath social narratives and personal certainties. Positioned between digital creation and material alchemy, his practice embodies the contradictions of contemporary existence – abstract, unpredictable, illusory, and profoundly human. In Belgenio’s universe, art becomes both a witness and a wound: a space where color, matter, and thought converge to reveal the restless pulse of life itself.
Belgenio’s work has been widely exhibited and critically recognized in Italy and abroad. His career includes participation in prestigious fairs, biennials, and collective exhibitions in Italy, France, UK, Spain, and the United States. Among the highlights are the Golden Lion Trophy for Visual Arts in Venice, participation in the Milan Biennale, Masters in Venice, Biennale di Sanremo, and numerous exhibitions curated or critiqued by prominent figures such as Vittorio Sgarbi, Salvo Nugnes, Giacobini, Giada Tarantino, and Giorgio Grasso.

His work and biography have been published in major art catalogs including Mondadori’s “Catalogo dell’Arte Moderna,” “Artisti,” and “The State of Art at the Time of the Venice Biennale.” Upcoming publications include the Mondadori Artists’ Yearbook 2025, the Giusti Modern Art Catalog 2026, and international presentations scheduled at major institutions and events, such as MoMA, the Met Museum, Art Basel Miami, and the Venice Biennale.
