Natalie Dunham

Natalie Dunham is a sculptor and installation artist. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2007, and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2010. Her artwork has been showcased in galleries, museums, and art fairs worldwide and has been acquired by hotels, hospitals, restaurants, corporate offices, convention centers, and the US Embassy.

She currently resides and maintains her studio practice in the United States, with an additional workspace in Europe. Dunham’s studio practice serves as a broader commentary on existence as a cumulative, rather than a finite, state of being. In a culture that often views life as a series of disconnected, high-speed “results”, her practice asserts that existence lies in the integrity of the incremental.

By assigning numerical titles to her studies, Dunham documents a chronological ledger of survival and evolution. This suggests that no moment of life is truly “finished” or discarded; instead, the individual is a layered record of every “humble beginning” and every refined decision made. The tension between the rawness of the material and the refinement of her shaping mirrors the human condition – the constant dialogue between natural, inherited origins and deliberate, mindful intentions.

Ultimately, Dunham views existence as a search for order within complexity. Through the repetitive accumulation of simple geometric forms, she aims to create a contemplative space that invites the viewer to slow down. Her art argues that to truly “exist” in the modern world is a radical act of presence – a commitment to finding beauty in the subtle nuances of process and the stillness of introspection.
