Rick Lundsten

My name is Rick Lundsten, and I have been painting for more than 35 years. My passion for art began at an early age, supported by my parents and encouraged by a dedicated high school art teacher who recognized my interest and helped me shape it. Growing up in Minnesota, “The Land of 10,000 Lakes,” I have always lived close to water. The lakes, rivers, boats, ships, and lighthouses that surround me have inspired my work for as long as I can remember.

Water has always been more than just a subject for me, it is a constant presence in my life and a defining element of my artistic identity. I have lived near the headwaters of the Mississippi River for my entire life, and I am only a short distance from Lake Superior. These landscapes have shaped my eye, my imagination, and my approach to painting. When I create, I aim to capture the changing moods of water, the stories connected to nautical structures, and the quiet beauty of nature in all its forms.

Over the years, my work has been included in regional, national, and international exhibitions. Each experience has pushed me to grow, refine my technique, and deepen my understanding of the watercolor and gouache mediums. I am driven by a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and by my faith, which continues to guide my journey as an artist. My goal has always been to challenge myself, I strive to be better than the artist I was yesterday.

As I continue to develop my style, I hope that those who follow my work will find something meaningful within it. Whether it is a memory, a feeling, or a sense of calm, I want my paintings to create a connection with the viewer. My greatest aspiration is to inspire, to invite people into the landscapes that have shaped my life and to encourage them to see the beauty in the world around them.
