“In my paintings I show figurative elements in order to evoke a story, a moment of life, and spin those elements to present the very same situation from a different angle. Because of this, very often the works offer a lot of symetries, in which some elements come and go depending on how we look at the artwork”.

Trebor Tod is a French painter born in Ecuador, south America in 1984. A creative and passionate mind combine with a hard work anti-conformist personality has produced one of the most original corpus of work of our time, pioneering figurative spin art and nurting it to reach a new maturity. Having received an education in science and art in Europe, he started creating from his inner brutal instinct combining it with an original idea: spinning figurative works.

“For me painting is a discipline of the mind and the body and I have a methodological approach to it – method that I have been developing since I started and that I try to improve every year. My intention is to tell stories from our time. For that I use painting to question our times and show everything that is between the questions and my answers: fears, hopes, limitations, hesitations, all the emotions that appear during the process”.

To some extent, we could say that Trebor Tod’s figurative spinning paintings are something like a shamanic experience that suggest deep rational thoughts, which beautifully counterbalance the flying high effect, and teach us more about ourselves or remind us about deep truths we tend to easily forget. During the period of modern primitivism from Ecuador, Trebor Tod focused primarly on opposites: joy and anger, sadness and happiness, death and birth reaching a point were the possibilities for new artworks seemed to be drying.

The travel to France in 2021 acted as a catalyser of a new cycle, helping to get familiar with allegories, which expanded the range of possible subjects for the compositions providing a new territory for exploration that he is eager to discover.”I have 2 goals:the first one is to participate in the public debate of ideas through my artwork; the second one is to connect with people that is willing to collect my work or to communicate about it, and in general make my work available to anybody willing to use my art to improve the world“.

As visitors enter Seeing Forest, they step into a mysterious, forested zone that exists both in the imagination and in Singapore. In this in-between space called the secondary forest - a threshold between old-growth or primary forest and developed areas, between urban and wild, invention and reality - artist Robert Zhao Renhui invites us to consider a complex web of human and non-human co-existence. Seeing Forest encourages visitors to explore the ways in which urban design can shape the natural world, and vice versa, resulting in a new ecosystem of migrant species that echoes the histories, trajectories and makeup of a city’s human population.
