Yan Yan

Yan is an accomplished interdisciplinary designer whose work centres on critiquing and interpreting the social landscape through the creation of artefacts and narratives that incorporate critical thinking. Her works encourage viewers to reflect on their own experiences through a systematic and hypothetical lens. She earned her MFA in design from the California College of the Arts and is currently a Product Designer at Captiv8.

Her projects have garnered several accolades, including the Gold Award from the Indigo Design Competition, the Silver Award from the Novum Design Competition, and the A’ Design Award. Her works have been displayed in exhibitions around the globe, including at the London Artill Gallery and the Rome International Art Fair, etc. As an observer of society, Yan has developed a keen awareness of the impact that urbanization and societal changes have on individuals. This led her to extensively reflect on how these forces can affect people’s inner being, causing emotional and psychological turmoil.

By incorporating her insights into her work, Yan is able to create artefacts and narratives that resonate with a diverse audience, sparking important conversations and inspiring meaningful change. Her interdisciplinary approach to design allows her to tackle complex issues from various angles, resulting in both thought-provoking and impactful work. For Yan, design is a tool for exploring the truth about the world and the internal universe. Her approach involves pushing experimental boundaries and imagining fictional scenarios that speak to contemporary social behaviour.
