I grew up steeped in history and the tangible echoes of the past, thanks to my father, who was deeply passionate about history. My childhood was filled with visits to art museums and archaeological sites throughout Mediterranean countries. These experiences nurtured in me a deep love for painting and instilled a unique perspective on stones and their ability to tell stories of the past while constructing magnificent aesthetic compositions. I still recall the awe I felt as a child when I told my family that I wanted to be a painter. However, their suggestions led me in a different direction, and it wasn’t until I was 43 that a challenge from my future wife rekindled my dormant passion. It was through painting the poem “Naïf Romance of Two Parallel Lines” that I truly began on my journey as an artist.

My work revolves around three main themes, each deeply embedded in my personal background and experiences. The first is ‘Structuring Themes,’ which explore the fundamental questions that define our existence: spiritual beliefs, the purpose of life, the awareness of infinity, time, and space. My Catholic and humanist education, combined with a love for history and philosophy, has helped to shape this theme. Every culture believes in the uniqueness of its values and truths, and yet many different cultures coexist with different values and truths. This awareness fuels my desire to encourage people to question absolute truths and to cultivate an understanding of different cultures across time.

The second theme is sustainability, encompassing natural balances, human values, relevant political issues and places. Art captures the impact of culture on nature, inspired by current news and personal observations. Socially, my humanist upbringing and affinity for history and philosophy encourage me to advocate for values and systems that best promote a balanced coexistence among individuals, such as democracy. Traveling plays a vital role in painting places, allowing me to capture unique elements of different places through photographs, which I later compose and translate into my paintings.

On a more personal level, my third theme focuses on self-discovery and interpersonal relationships. These collections explore individual characteristics, emotions, and interactions. With a psychiatrist father and a teacher mother, my education and personal experiences in understanding people have significantly influenced this theme, adding depth to my exploration of individuality and connection.

My art does not conform to a fixed style; rather, it is guided by the message I seek to convey. By combining traditional oil painting techniques with the introduction of rocks, minerals, and gems, I create artworks that are not only visually striking but also rich in symbolism and aesthetic complexity. This technique invites viewers to reconcile natural elements with the shapes and colors of my works, fostering a greater appreciation of nature and inspiring a harmonious balance between culture and nature.

A pivotal moment in my artistic journey came in 2023, when the painting “Fundamentalism” was included in school textbooks and discussed in schools across Germany and Austria. Through my art I want to broaden people’s understanding of each other and encourage a deeper understanding and communication of contemporary challenges, ultimately contributing to the creation of a better future.
I held my first individual exhibition in the Algarve in 2014, which laid the groundwork for my participation in numerous solo and collective exhibitions. Collaborating with the Portuguese Society of Fine Arts has been a particularly enriching experience. My last experience was a collective exhibition in Venice with Itsliquid group. As I continue to grow as an artist, I hope my journey inspires others to see the world with a more compassionate and understanding perspective.
