Edith Jung lives and works as an artist in Karlsruhe, Germany. Since she completed her study at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, she loves to experiment with different kinds of materials and to develop individual techniques of painting on her own. At the moment, she works with special pigments combined with glue, which allows her to create a sparkling and transparent surface. Her inspiration is music and modern ballet. During her creative work, she often listens to classical or new classical music, which takes her in a pleasant mood.

“My works are to be seen as a creative exploration of internal worlds. The points of intersection between these internal and external worlds give rise to symbols of magic, sacred character, ciphers that allow the viewer to sense and feel more than is actually expressed. They are archaic and yet timeless, a geometry of the spirit as a reminder of chaos and cosmos. There is no special work that stands out as a highlight. All of my artworks are the result of years of experience with different forms and techniques. I exhibit only the best of them”.

“My artworks are executed in a technique which I developed by my own, a truly individual technique. On primed and specially prepared wooden panels, pigments are bonded to each other with glue; light, lucid pigment and glue compounds with a moist, glossy finish are juxtaposed with the rough plaster background. Traces of symbols are created from the application of layers of pigment. The colors have an atmospheric quality that allows one’s gaze to relax as if looking far into the distance. Large-scale areas are combined with smaller structures, with elements that appear like ciphers, almost like gestures. Lines are applied with a brush or are notched into the background with a pencil. An important feature is the smooth movement of color sounds, shapes and bodies on the flat surface to create the three-dimensional illusion”.

“My work is influenced by the Spanish artist Antoni Tàpies, by Cy Twombly and Mark Rothko. A great inspiration for me is also the ancient Egyptian culture. My goal is always to refine and develop a new, other, fresh and spiritual point of view in my work and also in my life. I exhibited already all across Germany, in Switzerland, in Italy and in the United States. Of course, my intention is to present my artworks in museums, institutions and galleries in different countries all over the world. I wish to communicate to my audience a space of vibrant, metaphysical, three-dimensional reality, with colors of varying smoothness and opacity”.
