Originally from France, Marc has worked through forty countries without ever stopping drawing and painting. Promoting discovery and dialogue between cultures and generations, he plays with differences and contrasts. Thanks to the Ateliers des Beaux-arts de la Mairie de Paris, he has devoted himself to collage for ten years, and has developed a very personal style and technique. In a world overwhelmed by photography and immediacy, he finds in this slower path the opportunity to contemplate and admire what surrounds him and to give thanks to creation. With his ateliers located near Capri, Italy, and on the banks of the Adour, near Biarritz, Marc has recently produced fifteen travel diaries from Africa to Asia and from Biarritz to the Gulf of Salerno, with texts in harmony with his images. Marc’s works have already been exhibited in Venice, London, Rome, Milan, Paris, Suze la Rousse, Urt, Saint Laurent de Gosse and Biarritz.

“When you love your work, it’s not work. I always find it hard, except when it’s over. And it’s difficult to say when a work is finished. Should we stop or refine, at the risk of weighing down the work and overloading it? Finishing well remains a challenge for life! On the border of the abstract and the figurative, I love contrasts and shades of soft colors. My life and my professional experience, in many cultures, have given me a taste for differences. I discovered the interest and the way to identify them and combine them. Of course, I love the light of the Adour river, near Biarritz, and that of southern Italy, near Capri, where I have my two workshops but I also appreciate the shade. In my cave removed from the world. Working in a peaceful landscape as well as in a noisy café in Paris delights me. Examining the shadows dancing on the walls or cut and paste, in the sun on the terrace of a fashionable bar, hoping that a pretty creature will come and swoon. Everything is so beautiful even a simple piece of sugar shining with all its colors in the light“.

“The comments of passers-by, critics and admirers are many precious seeds that make their way, even when they tell me that my lion looks like a dog. Among the shredded newspapers, I make my cut-ups in the morning as if I were returning to kindergarten, deliciously carefree, my mind cleansed by the night. The teacher is beautiful, we are all in love with her”. Delicately, I cut through the Weekend Fashion supplement for young girls with peach skin. I sometimes make thin strips of them and dress them like with the old cut-up books for little girls. How will I dress him/her today? Serendipity my great friend is there, which guides me if I get lost. When the paper flies and sticks upside down or elsewhere, it’s sometimes better! After a certain time, I think I’m playing Mikado by fishing for a little lost piece – already spotted several times! – and still hidden underneath. The puzzle is not finished. We must give it some light. Is a complete puzzle still of interest?”

“I like the simplicity of the exercise and the sobriety of the two necessary tools, a simple cutter and glue. I use it until the last drop before getting a new jar. An old newspaper already all cut up can last a very long time before delivering its last confetti. If I want blue, in France, it’s better to look in the daily Sports Magazine. In Italy, there is more green, and in Egypt more red in Sports magazines. What a wonderful journey drawing through time! Eternal Escape.”

“Perhaps I should have become a Benedictine to do illuminations? This meticulous work, in silence in the light of the South, promotes meditation and prayer, with this delicious feeling of having time and freedom. It is then that I give thanks to the dedicated teachers I had at the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts in the city of Paris, Catherine Cocatrix and Florence Greco in particular, who helped me look and put me on the path. “Let yourself be led by the brush” and “Don’t forget to represent what you don’t see”, thank you for their crazy advice that remains deeply carved in my brain! I also thank this Californian chef who taught me how to use a cutting instrument. Quite an art too!”
