BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY is a contemporary art fair that presents collective and solo projects by leading and emerging international artists. The second edition represents a forum for direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals. The art fair features paintings, sculptures, photography art, installations, video art and live performance.

BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY 2021 analyses the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary time, through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.
MIXING IDENTITIES analyses the hidden parts of our identities, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness. The human body is a changing system that connects us with other bodies and spaces to perceive the surrounding reality; a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression.
FUTURE LANDSCAPES are abstract, infinite and conceptual, associated with a sense of freedom and infinite extension. Primarily experienced with the mind, spaces redefining their limits and borders, transforming surfaces in open flow of pure ideas. This section focuses on the concept of the borders and the structures between body, mind and soul, the human identity and the city, the space and the ground.
On June 24 the 2nd edition of BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY opened its doors with two wonderful live performances: Makoto Inoue, from Germany, presented “Ryukyu traditional Dance”, that is part of Ryukyu culture and tradition; Raizes Teatro, from Italy, presented “Free to Be”, a performance d’ensemble dedicated to human rights activists all over the world.
In this magical atmosphere, the Gallery was fulfilled with magnificent artworks. The Hungarian-born visual artist Tibor Soskuti’s visual language is distinguished by a remarkable versatility as well as a heightened sensitivity towards his subject matter, which simultaneously encompasses personal experiences and issues of a universal nature. Sofía Maldonado-Suárez‘s characteristic style is recognizable for her Caribbean palette and roots in graffiti. She deconstructs organic forms in order to explore colour fields in her work and represents feminine energy in her expressive outlines and sensually themed drawings. The artist’s colourful landscapes extended in space indicate the passage of time and the ephemerality of architectural structures.

Among the photographers, Xavier Toda began his career as an apprentice at the age of 14, in a photo-studio where he developed all kinds of photographic works. From then until now, photography has been his means of life and expression. His relationship with photography is not a passing love, it is an act lived as his snapshots show an emotional need that inevitably transports him to narrate with the image or to make us reflect with his visual approaches, always looking for a different, distinctive approach or frame. Katia Vitale is a contemporary landscape photographer and painter with a background in Art Direction & Graphic Design. By exploring the tension between representation and abstraction, she is continually intrigued by that minimal correlation that provides the viewer with a new perception of space. Her central theme is the interweaving of memory and imagination. Making photographs and paintings are fundamental aspects of the creative process for her experimentations.

We had also a rich video screening program: Michaela Resch, filmmaker and artist, follows questions revolving around time, identity, connectedness and spirituality, while Tyna Majczuk looks for conceptual solutions – she is interested in phenomena and form, which is a subject of processes, and her concepts give freedom of interpretation.
The second edition of BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR 2021 proved once again to be the perfect meeting point for more than 70 artists, each one with its own language and infinite ways of expression.
