FEEDBACK RELEASE: SURFACES 2018
ITSLIQUID International Art and Architecture Festival
THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space | Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi
Venice | May 25 – November 25, 2018

ITSLIQUID GROUP, in collaboration with Venice Events and Ca’ Zanardi, is pleased to reveal the great accomplishment of SURFACES 2018 – ITSLIQUID International Art and Architecture Festival, from May 25 to November 25 2018, in Venice at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space and at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi, during the same period of the Biennale Architettura 2018 – 16th International Architecture Exhibition.

SURFACES FESTIVAL 2018, curated by Arch. Luca Curci, consisted of three appointments: BODIES (May 25 – July 12), PLACES (July 26 – September 13), SPACES (September 27 – November 25), during which a vast selection of creatives from more than 40 country presented more than 700 works of painting, photography, installation/sculpture, video art, architecture, design and performance art.

During the Festival an experimental division dedicated to video and performing art has been presented: Venice Architecture Academy, an intensive experience that offered different prospective on the whole world of Architecture. SURFACES FESTIVAL 2018, durign six months, has offered amazing examples of invention and creativity in the artistic and architectural field, revealing an enchanting atmosphere.

The festival focuses on the concept of SURFACES, borders and structures between body, mind and soul, the human identity and the city, the space and the ground. The Festival analyzed the idea of human and urban places, how people live them and how they are modified in contemporary society. Every human being lives in a world in which surfaces shape their attitudes and behaviors, limiting freedom and creating a sense of alienation. The man reacts breaking the limits and finding a new way of life. We imagine a world of “liquid bodies and cities”, where differences create new possibilities, developing new structures, physical, intellectual and spiritual. The festival aimed to analyze the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary time.

SURFACES FESTIVAL 2018 started with BODIES: the openings took place on May 25 at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and on May 26 at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space. The BODIES structure is a research about the human physical identity, conceived not only as a material organic system, but also as an evolving organism with peculiar sensations, feelings and characteristics, in constant connection with other bodies and spaces. The human body connects us to the world.

The second appointment of SURFACES FESTIVAL 2018, PLACES, opened to the public on July 26 at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and on July 27 at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space. PLACES are connected to the concept of time, memories, borders and disorders. Places are tangible and finite unit of space. We can experience places through body or senses. This division of the festival invites artists and architects to explore new grounds, searching a new vision of contemporary places, related to new human behaviors, city transformations and everyday life needs.
