Feedback release: THE EXTENDED BODY – MIXING CULTURES
ITSLIQUID International Art Exhibition
THE LINE Contemporary Art Space, London | March 19 – August 07, 2020

ITSLIQUID Group, in collaboration with YMX Arts and Mercato Metropolitano, is proud to share the great results of THE EXTENDED BODY – MIXING CULTURES. The exhibition was held in London, at THE LINE Contemporary Art Space from March 19 to August 07, 2020.

THE EXTENDED BODY – MIXING CULTURES is an exhibition of contemporary art that analyzes the hidden parts of our identities, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness.

A wide variety of artists coming from all over the world shared their idea of the extended body through their surprising artworks. Among them, Pascal Raso created “Dance serie” as a result of his former sport career and now his work in photography. He started with the idea that the body is a hostile powerful tool but can also be the place of personal sovereignty, which in time becomes a privileged field of exploration, reflection and games. In this serie the author created the condition of a fragile and furtive dialogue between the body and light defining space, places and enviroments. Ryan Dubinsky‘s work is actually an extention of her body: a wire self-portrait. Indeed Dubinsky modeled her art piece around her head and face with assistance from a fellow student who photographed her work for the creation of “Echo.” Her project is about who she wants to be and who she is, that echoes out into the world; she would like to inspire everyone to wear their insecurities with pride. For Ryan, this piece echoes who she is out into the world by depicting her experience with the autoimmune disease alopecia.

Human is the main source of inspiration for the Russian-born photo artist, Olga Volodina. Her photography is an exploration of how the camera translates her feelings, thoughts and attitudes. Her controversial inner world comes to life conveying a message within a single frame, leading to strong compositions and thoughtful lighting decisions. Carole Kohler enhanced her abstract paintings with augmented reality. That’s her way of extending body, mind and spaces: a virtual dimension to open the visitor’s perception channels and to kickstart his fantasy. Colours are Emma Coffin‘s core of art. In her paintings, colours are alive and gathering throughout space into extended bodies who try to be embodied and express themselves. Through her paintings, she tries to stimulate people’s emotions and strive to bring them joy, energy and strength. Alberto Covi‘s artworks represents human as an extention of ambients, tragically connected like a unique system of elements. Then we loose our breath because of the deforestation, poison because of the fossil fuel burning, dry because of the temperature rise, suffer for the increasing rainfall rates. Jack King is deeply interested in the ways in which art, neurology and subliminal processes relate to one another. In his paintings, he endeavors to convey the complex interplay between the human figure and its emotional and experiential context. He is drawn to capturing both the intersections and senses of alienation that can be found between our external and internal selves.

THE EXTENDED BODY 2020 has definitely shown the idea of human body as a changing system that coexists with other bodies and spaces!

Mm London

ABOUT MERCATO METROPOLITANO

Mercato Metropolitano started with a pilot project in 2015 during the World Expo in Milan, regenerating a 150,000 sq.ft. disused railway station. The development of the first Mercato Metropolitano was carefully planned to retain the site’s original appearance, which nurtured the local community’s affection for a special part of their urban history. Over a four-month period, we saw in excess of two million visitors and our customer spend was over €8 million. The concept evolved from this success, and we opened our first site in Elephant & Castle, London in 2016.

Our MMarketplace is where selected food suppliers and our trading partners connect with our visitors to breathe life into healthy living that helps local communities grow strong together. MM brings diverse food practices and ingredients from different countries, cultures and traditions into urban environments. We take a “Glocal” approach: global reach with a local focus. While you will find dishes from around the world in our marketplace, we encourage the use of locally-sourced, natural ingredients.

Curated by Mel Bochner in collaboration with Magazzino Italian Art, This Special Exhibition Examines Parallel Artistic Movements in the 1960s and 1970s in the U.S. and Italy through the artwork of Bochner, Alighiero Boetti, and Lucio Fontana. Cold Spring, NY – August 24, 2020 – This fall, Magazzino Italian Art opens a special exhibition examining the formal, conceptual, and procedural affinities in the work of Mel Bochner, Alighiero Boetti, and Lucio Fontana. Curated by Bochner in collaboration with Magazzino, the exhibition marks the first presentation to consider the American artist’s extensive, yet overlooked, engagement with the practices of Fontana and Boetti, as well as with Italian art at large. Bochner Boetti Fontana offers, through the artist’s perspective, a number of resonances between his work and that of the Italian and Italian-Argentine artists: an exploration of systems, language, and materials; and a sense of irony and humor, often and especially shared by Arte Povera and Conceptualism, as all these works opened the work of art onto the space of display.
