After spending six formative years in LA during the vibrant art and performance scene of the 1980s and studying at the California Institute of the Arts, the painter now returns from his off-grid studio in the high desert of Taos, New Mexico. This return marks a powerful “full circle” moment in his artistic journey. Full Circle showcases a striking new series of large-scale oil paintings, ranging from three to nine feet tall. Each canvas is a bold visual statement, alive with flowing lines, symbolic patterns, and vibrant colors that pull viewers into a deeply immersive experience.

Mieshiel’s signature style, a unique blend of impressionism, surrealism, and “shamanic vision”, transforms his work into more than just paintings: they are gateways to expanded awareness and inner reflection. This new series represents a synthesis of decades of artistic growth – merging East Coast discipline with West Coast boldness and translating desert mysticism into an abstract visual language. Influenced by modernist masters like Miró and Gorky, as well as urban artists such as Basquiat and Haring, Mieshiel continues to forge his visionary path. Beyond oil paintings, his work expands into giclée prints, block prints, and wearable textiles, reflecting his belief that art should live beyond gallery walls and enter daily life.
With Full Circle, Mieshiel reconnects with Los Angeles and completes a creative arc that spans continents, disciplines, and states of being. After over 35 years working in oils, he presents a deeply personal and evolved expression of his visionary art, bringing his journey back to where it all started.

Mieshiel Murray – Biography
Born in New York City in 1964 and raised in a family of artists, Mieshiel Murray has always been surrounded by creativity. From a young age, he immersed himself in the dynamic energy of Manhattan’s SoHo arts district, where cutting-edge contemporary art sparked his passion and set him on an artistic path that continues to evolve today. He refined his vision at the California Institute of the Arts, where he began shaping his signature style: a striking blend of West Coast vibrancy and East Coast depth. Soon after, he co-founded Temple Art Performance (TAP) Space in Los Angeles, a groundbreaking venue for avant-garde installations, live performance, and experimental sound. Since 1987, Mieshiel has lived and worked in the raw beauty of the high desert in Taos, New Mexico, in an off-grid community powered by solar and wind energy. This deep connection with nature is the core of his creative process – living in isolation, close to the Earth and surrounded by natural beauty, allows him to venture deeply inward and serves as a constant source of inspiration for his work.
Mieshiel’s visionary works have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the U.S., including the landmark Shamanic Illuminations at ACA Galleries in New York City, where his pieces appeared alongside icons like Alex Grey and Pablo Amaringo. In 1991, he created the interior cover art for the Warner Brothers soundtrack of the film Serafina. Mieshiel is currently represented by ACA Galleries (NYC) and Envision Gallery (Taos).
