Interview: Alessandra Francini
Luca Curci talks with Alessandra Francini during the 3rd edition of Rome International Art Fair, at Medina Art Gallery.
Alessandra Francini is an Italian abstract painter who was born in Genoa 1965. In 1988 she moved to Germany, where she spent a large part of her adult life in Munich. Whilst in Munich she graduated in mathematics and architecture. She loves to travel and to experience different cultures, she appreciates the arts and trains her eye to architecture and interior design. She discovered her passion for abstract painting when she attended the studio of the artist Christl Platte where she dedicated herself to large-format works using natural materials, collage, mixed media and acrylic on canvas.
Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Alessandra Francini – Art for me is a creative expression of my emotions, thoughts and intimate world. Art doesn’t bring me any concrete knowledge but it makes me stop for a while like a meditation. For me art is very important, I believe we can train our way of thinking and art helps me to do that while touching deep emotions.
LC – What are you currently working on?
AF – I’m currently working on big canvas, because in a big surface I can express myself better and I can find my interior space.
LC – How do you choose your subjects? Is it a reasoned or an instinctive process?
AF – First I get a sensation by touching a colour I like that gives me energy. Then I start painting on the canvas without thinking, after that I find that the process starts to develop on its own. At the end I try to capture what the painting is trying to tell me in an art dialog. A classic example is I image it will be a landscape, or I recognize people in it, maybe myself taking part in the painting, then I try to understand what the picture is telling me. This allows me to understand myself better and to be in touch with my interior world.
LC – Do you use art to express something in particular? Is it your medium of expression?
AF – Yes, I use my art to bring my emotions to light.
LC – How do you feel when you see your work completed?
AF – I feel surprised and emotional, I ask myself is it really completed? I leave it for a while and when I am convinced that it is ok I feel very proud, if I don’t feel like this I destroy it and I start again from the beginning.
LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
AF – I think the concept and theme of this exhibition is to join the art works of every country worldwide. Bringing together different cultures, thoughts and emotions of the people. I was inspired by watching the works of other artists and I believe that the most observers are inspired as well and can develop their own way of thinking.
LC – What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this event? How is it connected to the theme of the entire exhibition?
AF – The message I want to give in this event is the relationship between soul and landscape. Every landscape is just only an interior feeling, and I want make it visible through colours and forms in my painting.
LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
AF – Yes, I truly believe it can represent an opportunity for artists because it brings like-minded people together and helps us expand our ideas.
LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
AF – I thought the platform was very interesting and it certainly offers a lot of ideas for the artists.
LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
AF – I very much enjoyed the event and my time with your company.
