Luca Curci
talks with Ana Maksimova during BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR 2021 – 3rd Edition at Valid world Hall Gallery.

“I was born in 1988 and developed creatively in the city of Vilnius, Lithuania. There I studied at an art school, adopted the experience of creative people of the famous art district of Uzupis and graduated in 2007. Having comprehended the creative energy of my native places, in 2011 I moved to the equally beautiful and astonishing Finland, where I live, paint and develop today. At the beginning of 2021, I sold my business and decided to immerse myself in creativity again, to do what brings me pleasure in the first place. I studied popular modern painting techniques that are relevant today for modern interiors, and came to the understanding that in the age of information technology, my paintings should not be overloaded with plots and forms, but should interact with the inner world of a person and harmoniously complement the space. By combining various art techniques and materials, I give particular preference to acrylic paints, textured pastes and epoxy resin. I create paintings in which the main meaning is colors and their combinations. In my works, I say that colors are amazing algorithms of the Universe that affect the subconscious of people. I believe that color directly affects feelings, and only then logical associations are born and images are drawn. In the modern world, various materials are available, painted in different shades, but nevertheless, if we think about it, we cannot touch the color in the usual physical way, we perceive colors unconsciously, we visually read them as algorithms. Colors are one of those algorithms of the universe that can affect our soul and feelings, they can affect both psychological and physical condition. Therefore, it is important for me that the painting does not just fit into modern interior trends, but that it affects a person, agitates his subtle fields, encourages him to feel and cognize the nature of his subconscious.

LUCA CURCI – Which subject are you working on?
– The main theme of my abstract works is the influence of colours shade on the human subconscious and the surrounding space, energetic interaction through colour.

LC – What are you currently working on?
– I am immersed in the process of studying colours as algorithms of the universe, how these amazing algorithms transform spaces, affect the sensory fields of the soul and provoke the emergence of mental images.

LC – What is the most challenging part about creating your artworks?
– For me, an important task is that the painting not only fits into modern interior trends, but also that the work of art interacts correctly and favorably with the person, without overloading him emotionally despite the contrasts and randomness of strokes in the artwork.

LC – What is your creative process like?
– My creative process is an intuitive immersion in work, which is harmoniously accompanied by my thoughts, a sense of freedom and discoveries from the subconscious, expressed in colours and textures on the canvas.

LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
– In my artwork is embedded what I call “Algorithms of the Universe” – this is energy that can be read visually and feel its influence on the emotional and physical state.

LC – What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this exhibition? How is it connected to the theme of the entire festival?
– In our modern world of information technology, people are forced to assimilate and process a large amount of information, which sometimes overstrains the mind and body, so the paintings I presented are not overloaded with images and plots, so that the viewer can comfortably plunge into his inner world with a calm mind. Through the visual perception of colour shades and textures that enhance sensory sensations, it is possible to expand the boundaries of your presence, to move to another space outside the physical world, to know the capabilities of your subconscious. Through my creativity, I propose to realize the multidimensionality of the universe and the connection of each of us with it.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the festival or as a part of preexisting works?
– Having got acquainted with the theme of this festival, there was a desire to take part in the event, because this topic is close to me and very interesting. The paintings presented in the exhibition were created by inspiration before I knew about this event.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
– For me, the ITSLIQUID Platform was a pleasant discovery. I am inspired by the information presented on this platform and how it relates to the development of contemporary art.

LC – What do you think about the organization of our event?
– The whole organization is at a highest level and arouses a sincere desire to be a part of the process.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
– I think, that ITSLIQUID GROUP provides a good opportunity to present artworks in different countries, organizes very interesting exhibitions for both artists and visitors. I want to say thank you for inviting me to participate!

Hey, I'm Franka, a creative soul with a diploma in design from Zagreb Faculty of Architecture.
