Interview: Andrea Harold
Luca Curci talks with Andrea Harold, WINNER of ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2024 Competition

“Since childhood, I have been intensely engaged with drawing, painting and photography. Initially, I focused on drawings and studies using pencil, charcoal and oil pastels. For the past 12 years, my focus has been acrylic painting, resin art and mixed media. Capturing the Art of Life is an expression that implies making the most out of life by living consciously, creatively, and mindfully. It means recognizing and appreciating the beauty, joy, and meaning of life. Shaped by challenge and loss, I am trying to build bridges between grief and the joy of life, striving to create a space where viewers can feel the essence of life. I aim for my works to inspire pausing, reflecting, and recognizing the beauty of life in all its facets. Using a contemporary language, every brushstroke represents an emotion, an experience, or a moment of joy or pain. Over the last few of years, my artistic expression evolved over various stages, and I developed a deeply personal approach and perspective”.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Andrea Harold – For me “art” is a profound expression of life itself. It is a bridge between emotions – grief and joy, struggle and triumph, loss and renewal. It allows me to capture the complexity of my experiences and transform it into something tangible and meaningful. Through painting, I strive to create a space where viewers can pause, reflect, and connect with the beauty and depth of life in all its facets. Art is my way of living consciously and creatively, finding meaning in both challenges and triumphs. It is not just a process but a way of appreciating life and sharing its beauty with others.

LC – Which subject are you working on?
AH – Currently, my work explores themes of human resilience, the interplay between joy and grief, and the beauty of everyday life. I often draw inspiration from personal experiences, nature, and the subtle but profound details of life that might otherwise go unnoticed. I aim for viewers to find their own connections within my art.

LC – Which art themes do you pursue? What is your preferred subject, if there is any?
AH – The themes I pursue revolve around the essence of life – transience, connection, and emotion. My art seeks to highlight the dualities we all face: light and shadow, pain and beauty, chaos and calm. While I don’t limit myself to one preferred subject, I often find myself drawn to abstract and semi-figurative expressions, where I can channel emotions through texture, layers, and colors. These allow me to communicate feelings and ideas that words cannot fully capture.

LC – How do you feel when you see your work completed?
AH – Seeing a completed piece fills me with a mix of emotions. There’s a sense of fulfillment and pride in having translated my thoughts and feelings into something tangible. At the same time, I often feel a deep sense of introspection, as though the artwork is a mirror reflecting my journey. Each piece carries its own story and energy and knowing that it might resonate with others or evoke reflection in them is incredibly rewarding.

LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
AH – Being an artist today is both exciting and challenging. On one hand, there are unprecedented opportunities to share your work globally, thanks to technology and social media. It’s easier to connect with a wider audience and build a supportive community. On the other hand, the fast-paced, digital world can sometimes make it difficult to stay authentic and focused on the deeper meaning of your work. Balancing creative expression with the demands of visibility and marketability is an ongoing challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to evolve and innovate as an artist.

AH – Yes. Collaborating with ITSLIQUID GROUP can be an excellent way to expand my reach and connect with like-minded individuals and collectors, provide exposure to international art communities and to reach new audiences. Your open calls for artists provide a unique opportunity to showcase work in high-profile locations.
