Interview: Andrea Alfano
Luca Curci talks with Andrea Alfano during CONTEMPORARY VENICE 2021 – 8TH EDITION, at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space.
“I’m 33, I live in Bari and I’m a Graphic Designer. I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari in Graphic Arts course. In my bachelor’s degree, I was lucky because I take part in the Erasmus mobility for 1 year in Kielce (Poland), I study at the University of Kochanoskiego with a specialization in Graphic Design. During the master degree, I won the scholarship for taking part in the Erasmus for internship and I was in Tischner European University in Krakow (Wyższa Szkoła Europejska im. Ks. Józefa Tischnera w Krakowie – Poland), my duties were: Assistant of M.rs Ana Treska Siwon, teacher of the Graphic Design course for the fourth and fifth year, Graphic Designer in the Marketing office. I got my master’s degree in July 2016 with 110/110 cum Laude, after winning the scholarship I took part in the internship mobility at the marketing department of the Facultad de Bellas Artes de Malaga (Spain), for one year”.
Luca Curci – What are you currently working on?
Andrea Alfano – Now I’m working in a Fashion Company, in Bari, I am part of the style office, I choose the fabrics with the head, color palettes, trends. I create advertising material, take care of the company’s social networks, order entry, advertising shooting and sales material.
LC – What is your creative process like?
AA – My projects are inspired by a famous painting, a revision or a vision of that painting, remade in a modern key, in reference to contemporary society, ironically but always maintaining its recognizability, it’s printed on photographic paper and set up on 5 mm Forex or printed on canvas. The elaborate is made using the Adobe Illustrator (a vector graphics program), in parallel with the Abobe Photoshop program (specialized in photo processing).
LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
AA – My artworks are influenced by foreign experiences, studies at the University of Krakow, the Bauhaus, thesis, the colors of Dalì, the minimalism and cleanliness of AG Fronzoni, the painting activity of De Chirico.
LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
AA – Being an artist in such a fast society is very stimulating, there are many means to design work, the internet offers so many opportunities.
LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
AA – ITSLIQUID Group could soon become a new launch platform for young guys who, like me, need to be appreciated for those who believe in themselves.
LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
AA – So, for me was a beautiful experience.
