Luca Curci
talks with Annamaria Vidotto during VISIONS, third appointment of ANIMA MUNDI 2022, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

Annamaria Vidotto was born in Bolzano on 20/08/1946. From a young age, she showed a strong interest in figurative art. Her enrolment in the Italian Fine Arts Syndicate – Bolzano Section (S.I.A.B.A.), today the Association of Artists of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, enabled her to obtain a diploma in 1970 from the two-year course in Figurative Arts. She continued with a further course in Advertising Graphics and Serigraphy, deepening engraving techniques with the well-known graphic designer Rina Riva, obtaining an official professional certificate from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano in 1973. She then attended the Liceo Artistico, where she further improved her artistic notions both technically and theoretically. In the meantime, in addition to being a member of the Association of Artists of the Province of Bozen/Bolzano, she also joined the Association of Friends of Art and the Italian Federation of Women in Arts Professions and Business (F.I.D.A.P.A.). With these she exhibited in various galleries in Bolzano, gaining very positive recognition. In order to further expand her presence in the artists’ community, she joined the ‘Il Carro delle Muse’ Association, with which she took part in the ‘Premio Internazionale Lettere ed Arti 2020’ competition in Lugano (CH), gaining high recognition for the quality of her finalist work. From 1969 to 2022, she participated in more than 50 group exhibitions and several solo exhibitions both in and outside the province. In her works, she uses figurative language, with a preference for the human figure in traditional, mixed and hyperrealist techniques with various modes of operation on canvas and other media, and art graphics.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Annamaria Vidotto –
It is a form of expression to externalize personal emotions and feelings of a given moment.

LC – What are you currently working on?
AV –
At the moment my activity is oriented toward creating works with themes suggested by individuals and artists’ associations.

LC – How is your creative process?
AV –
My creative process is the result of years of technical and academic study, observation of nature and the human, and translation into representational pictorial form.

LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
AV –
Not necessarily although I prefer the human figure and nature. I am inspired by the representational tradition although my artistic “sign” is entirely original and has been perfected over years of activity.

LC - How is being an artist nowadays?
AV –
Collaborating with artists’ associations, and art galleries and staying active on specialized sites and various social media.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
AV –
It is an open exhibition that does not limit, but rather encourages the interpretive ideas represented by the works. I was inspired by the idea of converging multiplicity and heterogeneity into a single format.

LC – What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this event? How is it connected to the theme of the entire exhibition?
AV –
My artwork is a testimony to the traditions and customs of Tyrol. I believe that in an age of very rapid change and consequent oblivion there is a need to rediscover the thread of origins and the past in order to give narrative meaning to the present. For this very reason, I believe that my work fits perfectly into the context of this exhibition.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
AV –
Definitely, through the exhibitions organized by ITSLIQUID GROUP around the world, participating artists are given great visibility.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
AV –
It was an interesting experience that will be repeated again.

LC – What is your idea about ITSLIQUID GROUP?
AV –
As a communication platform for contemporary art based on fluidity, movement, connection and accessibility it is interesting. It offers the possibility to submit our own works and projects that will be selected and approved facilitating the dissemination.
