Interview: Artvr
Luca Curci talks with Artvr during THE BODY LANGUAGE 2025 at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello in Venice.

Born into a family of artists, Artvr has been immersed in beauty since childhood, a gift that has profoundly shaped his vision of the world. Although born in Paris, it was through his travels that he found his true essence, spending time in South America, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and, more recently, Italy. However, it was the island of Gran Canaria that truly saw him grow. His artistic journey has explored various forms of expression, but the camera, both still and video, has remained his constant companion, becoming his preferred tool for exploring and narrating reality. In 2023, a road trip from Gran Canaria to Sarajevo marked a turning point in his path. Armed with his Olympus, he discovered not only new lands but also a new way of seeing life. From that moment, photography became his voice, a means to express his vision of the world. Upon returning to the Canary Islands, he began showcasing his work, holding three solo exhibitions and participating in two group shows across the Canary Islands, France, and Italy. Today, his life remains in constant motion, guided by beauty and the projects that fate brings his way. He defines himself as an eternal seeker, an artist whose gaze, like his spirit, never stops capturing the fleeting moment.

Luca Curci – How did you get into photography?
Artvur – When I was very young, my mother was a fashion photographer in Paris, so there were always a camera or two and a couple of film rolls lying around the flat that I could have played with… My father and a great part of my family were artists too, which has influenced my vision greatly, I believe and I might have inherited a “certain eye” for composition. Growing up I didn’t really take pictures, until I got into skating. After an injury, I reconnected with the camera and started shooting my friends until photography and filmmaking became essential in my life.

LC – Do you remember why you took your first professional photo?
A –
If we refer professional as “the first time making money with a camera”,… I do remember, at the beginning of YouTube, a producer noticed my work and offered me a project in which I was assigned to gather a team and create an extreme sports show, for IPTV. If professional refers to expertise, it’s hard to say, I decided to show my photography “more publicly” a bit more than one year ago, since then, “The Body Language” as been the 5th exhibition I’m part of.

LC – According to you, what makes a good photo? Which details do you focus on?
A –
Composition. No matter what. Regardless of what your vision is, it is only by composing properly, according to it, that you will make a good photograph. In documentary or street photography, you don’t really choose your subjects, scenes or lights. It’s like improvising all the time, you grab your camera, go out and don’t really know what you are going to shoot. The only constant you have to make a recognisable good photograph is your vision and the way you compose.

LC – What do you think about art on social media? Are they turning into the new showcases of contemporary art?
A –
As mentioned earlier, I started showing my work to a broader public less than 2 years ago…
Social media wasn’t (might still not be) really my thing. It is a great tool to show your stuff and how you manage… No one can deny that it is indeed a great way to showcase your work. It’s amazing how far it can take somebody with a bit of drive. But for me it remains complementary only – art belongs on walls and dedicated spaces rather than on tiny, too bright screens.

LC – How do you choose your subjects? Is it a reasoned or an instinctive process?
A –
In photography, I don’t choose them. They appear… or I appear on their ways. For me It’s not even about being at the right time in the right place. It’s more about “to do with what you have”

LC – What issues do you intend to deal with in the future?
A –
I’m currently living on the road. Mainly setting course from one project or opportunity to another – for example, this one now in Venice. For the future… I’m working on making more clients willing to create nice projects with… You know, making more coin out of what I love the most, to be honest… And even settling somewhere, why not? For now, I’m available worldwide!

LC – Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
A –
The piece I’ve chosen to display on this occasion is a photograph I have taken inside a Palazzo, the first time I came to Venice, last year. I was just looking around, amazed by the beauty of the place, the lighting and the exhibition that was taking place there. I saw the silhouette of a woman walking towards the light spot among the darkness. I got ready, raised the viewfinder to my eye and clicked. The photograph is straight out of the camera, no editing whatsoever. It is one of my favourite color pictures I’ve taken to date, the scene looks almost unreal.

LC – In which way the artwork presented in our exhibition is connected with the exhibition’s theme?
A –
“Between shadow and light, ephemeral – In a suspended moment, past and present glimpse each other, leaving only the echo of their encounter” – This is how I described the photograph for the exhibition. “Past and present” refers to the movement, to the steps made by the body accidentally walking into the light. “Leaving the echo of their encounter” ergo the silhouette immortalised over the spotlight forever. The traces that remain are the only things we leave behind.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
A –
Yes, definitely. It’s a great showcase for emerging artists who want to put their feet in the major leagues. Having the opportunity to exhibit in incredible venues such a the Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello in Venice and being seen by art enthusiasts from all around the globe, is priceless!

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
A –
Yes, really. The whole team is very professional and considerate. All the questions and requests I could have had were answered in a timely manner. The reception is just amazing, I really felt welcome from minute one. Great distribution of the works of art across the venue, and the inauguration was out of this world. Again, thank you!
