Luca Curci
talks with Bautil Willy during the CANVAS INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

“I am 70 years old and in good condition. I have been drawing and painting since I was 12 years old, helped by my grandfather who was a self-taught painter. Born in Antwerp and currently living on the Belgian coast. I worked in a bank for 10 years and had my own transport company for 12 years. Now I have time to concentrate on painting and drawing. Every Monday I go cycling and draw the beautiful views and buildings of the region of which I made 44 drawing last year”.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Bautil Willy –
Art is like a dream, it never ends and brings sunshine to the dark. It is the way to express myself in a silent material way by evoking feelings. The impulse to make art is very strong because when I make it everything around me stands still.I feel very good about it. For me art should inspire the viewer so that the impulse can be continued.

LC What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced yout work the most?
BW – When you look at the world you are amazed by all kind of things and when you try to understand them new questions arise. It is then that I use my unrequited and experienced thoughts and feelings to create art. You can say that all sorts of things affect me.

LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
BW – It is great to be an artist now because there are many new materials , methods and information so that you can choose the best way to express yourself. To make a living from art is very difficult and has always been throughout history, but now we have the opportunity to use all kinds of media.

LC – How is your creative process?
BW –
When I am inspired I make a study of the phenomenon and approach it from all sides: philosophical, technical, poetic,… The result is a lot of data from which I take the best to express myself as well as possible, even the size of the canvas is important.

LC – Which art themes do you pursue What is your preferred subject, if there is any?
BW –
I am concerned with positive thoughts because I think that today people think more about negative than positive things. I made a work about “hope”, “the experience of walking in the moonlight” , “feeling good at the thought of a deceased friend” , etc.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the exhibition or as a part of pre-existing works?
BW –
They are a part of pre-existing works although they are created in the last 15 months.

LC – Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
BW –
The work of the “Body Spaces” exhibition called “In chaos are stars” created is a sentence of one famous philosopher that thoughts should be free. The work “Surviveling” that will be exhibited in the exhibition “Mixing identities” shows how we make a person live on in our thoughts but when the bell rings everything is gone, it is that good and fragile. “Nightwalk” , shown at the “Visions” exhibition, is the impression at full moon that leaves you amazed.

LC – What do you think about the organization of our event?
BW –
The exhibitions organized by Itsliquid are good and there is a good follow up.

LC – What are your suggestions about our services Is there something more we can provide to artists?
BW –
I like to see some photos of the installation of the exhibition and financial help by selling my works.

LC – What is your idea about Itsliquid Group?
BW –
It is the first time I work with you and so far it is good.
