Interview: Brigitta Tenkes
Luca Curci talks with Brigitta Tenkes during the 16th Edition of VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2022, at Palazzo Bembo.

Brigitta Tenkes lives in Budapest, Hungary. She paints on stretched canvas with an acrylic technique based on her own ideas, but she is also happy to work on individual requests. As each room is unique, anyone can find the piece that works best for them. Tenkes has been fascinated by art and creation since she was a child. She’s always been attracted to creating something that can cause joy for someone else. She also authored a recipe book especially for little kids, inviting parents and children to multi-layered activities and useful, fun-filled time. The artist started painting to decorate our own house. She believes the space around us fundamentally influences our mood and well-being. Brigitta feels that when we are surrounded by unique creations that are tailored to our own needs, it builds a warmer, friendlier atmosphere, both at home and at work. This is the effect she strives to achieve with her work. For Brigitta Tenkes, painting is an exciting discovery in which the image is formed by itself during its creation creating a completely unexpected end result. Her goal is that anyone who decorates a wall of an office or home finds joy in her work. The artist chose the abstract technique because in her opinion it shows everyone something completely different. In her view, the most important aspect of a painting is that it brings about a good feeling and a harmonious experience.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Brigitta Tenkes – Art is, when the artwork reaches you in some way, has something to say to you, touches you, or tells a story for you.

LC – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
BT – I was looking for paintings for my own home and I thought I would try them myself. Creation was important to always. At the beginning, I didn’t want to exhibit my paintings, but now I’m very happy that I’m invited worldwide to famous exhibitions

LC – Do visitors’ suggestions enrich yourself and your art?
BT – I would like the public to be curious about my work. I would be happy to participate in the exhibitions in person and receive feedback from the audience.

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
BT – The generating force behind my work are the feedback. It makes me feel good when people are happy to own my paintings.

LC – How is your creative process?
BT – All the time I take pictures of colour harmonies, shadows, of textures. I collect it. I love to paint for an order for an interior. Then I look at my photos of colours and feelings and textures generally from nature. But the most interesting when I have a feeling and I must paint. I start to paint and I follow the flow.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the exhibition or as a part of preexisting works?
BT – It was a preexisting work, but I chose it, because the colours of the painting reminds me of the beautiful city of Venice, the richness, the gold and the light blue.

LC – Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
BT – The painting was inspired by a jazz song, “100 Days, 100 Nights”. It symbolizes the 100 days. It shows a clear blue sky where the golden sun rises, like the man in the song, portraying his positive side and positive human trait, such as the beginning of a relationship when you see everything wonderful and bright until you get to know it better. The colours of the artwork remind me of the wonderful, romantic and mysterious city of Venice. You can see the combination of pure light blue and deep gold. This painting has a pair, another artwork titled 100 Nights.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
BT –ITSLIQUID is a very interesting platform, it has a lot of social appearance and a lot of exhibitions.
