Interview: Burcu Akarçay
Luca Curci talks with Burcu Akarçay during VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2022 – 15th Edition, at Palazzo Bembo.
Burcu Akarçay was born in Bursa in 1981. She studied painting at Uludağ University. In 2006 she moved to London to study London College Of Fashion then she came back to Turkey and continued her artwork. She joined many group exhibitions. Human beings are the focal point of their recent work. She has used many different technique in her art and now she use mixed media.
Luca Curci – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
Burcu Akarçay – I started to art education at a very young age and all these caused me to create a different perspective on art.
LC- Which subject are you working on?
BA – I have been working on humans and portraits for a long time and discovering new things every day.
LC – How is your creative process?
BA – Sometimes I start with a live model and sometimes with a visual that I have seen and influenced. Then I do some sketches of course there are many differences when I reach the result.
LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
BA – Yes the main theme is human in my recent work. I continue in the process without limiting myself.
LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
BA – Being an artist was never easy, it always required struggle, and it’s the same now. The important thing is to continue despite all the negativities.
LC – What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this event? How is it connected to the theme of the entire exhibition?
BA – Salvador Dali is one of the most important figures in the art world and I think very suitable for the exhibition in Venice.
LC- Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
BA – My painting is Salvador Dali’s most famous photo and really enjoy the process.
LC- What do you think about the organization of our event?
BA – The organization was very professional.
LC – Would you suggest a collaboration with us? What do you think about our services?
BA – Of course, I would suggest. They are friendly kind and easy to communicate with.
