Interview: Davide Magrisi
Luca Curci talks with Davide Magrisi during CONTEMPORARY VENICE 2021 – 9TH EDITION, at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space.
“I was born in Milan on the 4th of April 1989. I’m a self-taught and modern artist. I mainly deal with abstract works. Since when I was young I showed an interest in painting thanks to my family and their passion. Moreover, I was positively influenced by my Grandpa “Andpier” renowned impressionist and landscape painter from 1970 and 2000, finding successes from contemporary critics, participating in competitions and showing his works in personal exhibitions. In February 2019 I was selected among international artists to participate at “Mentana in Florence rassegna di arti visive” organized by the Modern Art Gallery Mentana situated in via Mosca 5 Florence. I participated with 3 works “Ninfea”, “Ultimo” and “Fuoco” to the art exhibition located in Mentana Gallery and in Borghese Palace art hotel situated in via Ghibellina 174r Florence. During the exhibition, I had the chance to meet and know important artists. On that occasion, I was interviewed by ToscanaTv and the daily journal “La Toscana Nuova” dedicated the page 25 to the exhibition publishing “Ultimo”. A few months later in Milan, I met some important people of artistic panorama who let me participate with 2 works “Ninfea” e “Nudo” to the event “Esposizione Arte Donna” at La Casa dei Diritti situated in via de Amicis 10 in Milan. About ten works have been exhibited with success in two restaurants Padosé in Seregno and Cagiada in Monza and in other private rooms around Milan. My works, as I’ve already indicated, are abstract and realized with oil on canvas and they are defined as unique and recognizable for the diversity of the picturesque stretch. “Ultimo” has been selected for the event “Premio Internazionale Raffaello Sanzio” that took place in September 2020 in Rome. My production (30 works at the moment) is in continuous evolution. Last September I was invited to participate in a Pop event next year in Milan”.
Luca Curci – How did you get to your current artistic practice? What are your thoughts while you paint? Do you have any habits or rituals while you work?
Davide Magrisi – I paint in a natural way. I’m a self-thought artist. During the painting, I isolate myself from the world and indulge in the use of colours. What I try to make is paint on the canvas my state of mind and bring out the beauty of painting.
LC – What is the most challenging part about creating your artworks?
DM – The most challenging part is bringing out the colours and shades through the use of oil painting.
LC – How is your creative process?
DM – I paint only for passion and for the benefit I received by creating my artworks. It makes me feel good to look at my artworks and see people appreciate them.
LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
DM – Absolutely not, except in cases of artworks commission.
LC – What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this event? How is it connected to the theme of the entire exhibition?
DM – I take part in this event with two artworks named “Ultimo” and “Ninfea”. During the realization of “Ninfea”, I thought about quadrangular reproduction of a ninfea based on impressionistic works. Instead for “Ultimo”, I represent on canvas my state of mind of that moment, because the name “Ultimo” means that It was the last work connected with my last state of mind.
LC – Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
DM – My artworks “Ultimo” and “Ninfea” are realized through the oil on canvas technique. The size of the canvas is 100cm X 40cm. They are realized by the use of brushes and little spatulas both artworks were first exhibited in Firenze, Milano and Monza.
LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
DM – I think that is a good platform that allows both new-coming and affirmed artists to get visibility thanks to its web services and the realization of exhibitions.
LC – What do you think about the organization of our event?
DM – I think that it’s a well-structured event open both to art experts and art curious, so it is a great chance for any artists to be seen, appreciated and recognized.
LC – Would you suggest a collaboration with us? What do you think about our services?
DM – Yes, I suggest the collaboration with ITSLIQUID GROUP. It’s interesting to understand how It could be useful to discover new artists and allow them to be seen in different facilities located in wonderful cities.
