Interview: Elena L Georgieva
Luca Curci
talks with Elena L Georgieva during the FUTURE LANDSCAPES, third appointment of BORDERS ART FAIR 2023 held in Venice at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

In 2000 Elena graduated Art School ‘Vladimir Dimitrov – Maystora’ in Kardzhali, Bulgaria. In 2004 graduated University of Forestry, Sofia, Bulgaria – Bachelor’s degree, and in 2009 graduated University of Forestry, Sofia, Bulgaria – Master’s degree. Elena has over 15 years of experience in Interior Design. She has designed in the Commercial, Hospitality and Residential sectors. Elena has worked on various projects in Bulgaria, Switzerland, the USA, and Asia. As an artist, she creates art installations, paintings and illustrations for her projects and other commissions. She has participated in multiple art shows and in December 2019 she placed her a very successful Solo exhibition in Sofia called “Into the Now”. For several years, Elena Georgieva/Studio L Design has been supplementing her interior concepts with art objects created by her. They have always been a continuation or concentration of the visual aesthetics chosen for the interior and in some way tied to the nature of the inhabitants. The “Into the Now” series for the first time withdraws from the requirements of these particularities and closes in the circle of its own self‐sufficiency. The idea is that the world is fluid, overflowing with its past and future. Things happen now, in the present moment, and it’s nice to grab them as they are shaped by the moment, not as preplanned or fantasies. “In the compositions, I use pieces of ceramics, and marble, left in the process of my work on the interiors. Continuations in a new context life of these materials I combine with pure brass. So you get a mix of something already used and something completely new.”

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Elena L Georgieva –
Art gives me the power to exit the present and create my imaginary world. It’s like hopping into a bubble that floats me near the ground but is still in the atmosphere of endless possibilities.

LC – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
EG –
I graduated from art school but still believe that the passion and instinct for art that I have are the leading inspiration for my work as an interior designer.

LC – How do you choose your subjects? Is it a reasoned or an instinctive process?
EG –
Most of the time it is a result of my intuition but I still create some works for specific projects of mine.

LC – Do you use art to express something in particular? Is it your medium of expression?
EG –
Yes, indeed! My artworks are meant to represent my vision of the design style and aesthetic. They have always been a continuation of the visual aesthetics chosen for the interior I’m working on. The “Into the Now” series for the first time withdraws from the requirements of these particularities and closes in the circle of its own self-sufficiency.

LC – How do you feel when you see your work completed?
EG –
I feel completely satisfied and impatient to show it to the world.

LC – In which way the artwork presented in our exhibition is connected with the exhibition’s theme?
EG –
‘Into the now’ series is based on the idea that the world is fluid, intertwining present, past and future, and that is exactly how I feel the connection between my artworks and the exhibition theme.

LC – Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
EG –
In my ‘INTO THE NOW’ series, things are happening now and it’s good to grab them in the moment. In the compositions, I use pieces of ceramics, marble, and other materials, left in the process of my work on the interiors. Continuations in a new context life of these materials I combine with pure brass, copper and others. So you get a mix of something already used and something completely new.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
EG –
It is a great field for young artists to show their work to the world and to meet like-minded.

LC – What do you think about the organization of our event?
EG –
It was very professional and very well organised! I’m happy to be part of it and for every artist, it is a great honour to have the opportunity to be part of events like this one.

Luca Curci – Would you suggest a collaboration with us? What do you think about our services?
EG – I would highly recommend collaboration with you and can’t wait for our next project together.
