Interview: Elisa Spagnoli
Luca Curci
talks with Elisa Spagnoli during FRAGMENTED IDENTITIES, the second appointment of BORDERS ART FAIR 2021, at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space.

“I observe what I see, I listen to what I feel in seeing. A meter falls from my hand and its spring explodes to the ground. Here is that exploding/freeing calls something inside of me and thus work like LIBERATÌ is born. I observe a child playing and learning while having fun and an art piece is born as a SIMPLE CHOICE. I observe the sky at the clouds on the horizon and I would like that vastness to creep into the walls of my mind and SUBLIMATION is born. The technique is like water when you are thirsty, you use whatever you need as you please: acrylic, oil, plaster, metal, wood. Decide which representation you quench your thirst the most: abstract, figurative, surrealism…”

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Elisa Spagnoli –
Art is a means of crossing other worlds.

LC – What are your thoughts while you paint? Do you have any habits or rituals while you work?
ES –
I don’t think about anything in particular but I‘m listening to myself. I have no rituals but I prefer to be alone when I paint.

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
ES –
I’m inspired by what I see from landscapes, people, animals, broken objects, and my thoughts.
