Interview: Eva Brutmann
Luca Curci talks with Eva Brutmann during the 15th Edition of VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2022, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

“I’m Eva Brutmann, born October 1975 in Salzburg, Austria. In my daily life I work as a journalist for television and radio (ORF Salzburg) – I love people and I love their stories. In my little studio in the vineyards of South Styria I change camera and microphone with colors and brush. Creative work in this area fascinates me – inspiring nature, friendly people, the smooth light, mediterranean climate, … In my art I try to combine strong colors (I love oil) with natural tones of the local vineyards. And, not only that I travel between art and journalism, I am also a passionate traveller around the world. I love to capture special moments and faces filled with life experience – what an inspiration! Touch, inspire and create smiling faces with my art makes me happy – come with me on this journey!”
“Art is an endless journey, I love every step – explore, dream, discover!”

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Eva Brumann – Art for me is my parallel universe… I dive in every day and I stay focused on something, I normally just recognize. Looking at faces, expressions, emotions in that special way… LOVE IT!

LC – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
EB – I love interacting with people, I am an open minded person. People, their emotions, their feelings influence me and my art work. I want to show all of this – also what lies underneath the surface. Everybody has a hidden side – and a tiny bit of this secret I try to express with my artwork.

LC – Which is the role the artist plays in society? And contemporary art?
EB – Artist as well as contemporary art are kind of a mirror. They show what excites us, what evoke the biggest emotions, art can be critical, art often is uncomfortable – and art gives us the opportunity to express ourselves, where words come to an end.

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
EB – Everywhere. As an artist you develop this special look… on everything. When I walk with my dog, while drinking a good glass of wine with friends, feel thankful during walking through our vineyards… there are so many moments I want to capture with my art.

LC – How do your choose your subjects? Is it a reasoned or an instinctive process?
EB – I draw what touches me: a face that tells a story, an intimate moment to keep forever, the wonders of nature. You can’t express with words – so let the colors talk! But I also love to share messages with my artwork – look at a drawing and talk about it, try to find answers, dive in the composition and stay there for some minutes – that’s it.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
EB – I just love it – the concept, the location… Venice IS and always WILL BE inspiring for artists!

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID Group can represent an opportunity for artists?
EB – No doubt, this is a real good chance for artists all over the world to show their artwork in a palazzo in Venice. Believe me, that is a unique feeling for a rookie like me!

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
EB – My pleasure! The whole ITSLIQUID-GANG is just great! Organizing with so many different artists – WOW!!!

LC – Would you suggest a collaboration with us?
EB – Easy answer… YES, DEFINITELY, you won’t regret it! I tell you: strolling through Palazzo Albrizzi and finding my art hanging on the walls – a moment I will never forget!

Hey, I'm Franka, a creative soul with a diploma in design from Zagreb Faculty of Architecture. My journey has taken me through years of experience in design to becoming CEO and founder of Idearium Lab., a compact design studio where we take your ideas to reality. Beyond the world of design, I'm an art aficionado with a love for painting and music. My brush and my canvas are my expression tools where I let out all of my emotions, all in collection of swipes. Speaking of music, I'm also in love with music. Piano is my expression tool as well. With any spare time left, I always play piano. Read more
