Interview: Fabiana Vizzani
Luca Curci talks with Fabiana Vizzani during SUPERNATURAL , held in London, at THE LINE Contemporary Art Space.

“My paintings are very material. I love showing contrasts, and excesses through three-dimensionality; the feminine universe is full of emotions and sensations which I express by going beyond the screen, also using the external volume. This is certainly born out of the need to convey a more intense and immediate message to the viewer. The perception of the work changes with respect to perspective and thus comes to interact with the public with a strength, a life and a balance of its own. The woman is always represented naked as a symbol of total transparency and surrender of herself to the truth. The vivid colors and circular shapes show the energy flowing within the body. This intense and, at the same time, fragile vibration echoes outwards as if looking for a mirror effect on the observer. Emotions start in me, but once the picture is finished they belong to the audience. It is the public that subjectively interprets and absorbs the meaning of the work and at that moment the work is theirs. I no longer exist in this process”.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Fabiana Vizzani –
Art for me is pure transcendence. It helps us to catch the perfect moment in which we understand our divine nature. This is when we feel how metaphysics and rational everyday life coexist at the same moment. Art is awareness.

LC – What are your thoughts while you paint? Do you have any habits or rituals while you work?
FV –
While I paint I feel a sense of macro overthinking. When I’m completely in the painting process, images, colours and situations appear to me and take control of my brushes…a sort of mystic experience. Many times I listen to music, turn on my candle and take out my shoes. When I have a commitment I have to set the alarm because most of the time when I paint I lose my notion of time.

LC – How is your creative process?
FV –
Usually I spend the day catching the inspiration in what surrounds me… nature, signs, people’s behaviour. But I like very much philosophy and classical literature, so many artworks are inspired by philosophy or elaboration in a modern key of ancient knowledge. Usually, I draft a project of the final work but many times during the painting process I change many details. In this way the message behind the painting changes many times, but due to my personal feelings.

LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
FV –
Yes! My artworks always represent women: naked women with all their fragility and superpowers exposed.

LC – What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this event? Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
FV –
During the years I have improved my technique. I had many classes and schools to learn to dominate better the plasticity of the figure. But the subject and the way of painting (made by colourful spirals) is the same from the time I was a child. For the Supernatural art exhibition, I chose a paint called “Inside me”. It’s a woman in the fetal position, entirely made of gold leaves. It represents the fragility and the research for protection, but it’s the woman herself the precious element to give courage and protection to the universe. She is supernatural, but she still needs to discover this superpower inside her. The kind of blu that I have chosen for the background is a very particular tonality, the Egyptian blue: it represents the mystery of the universe and the sacredness of the soul.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
FV –
I’d really love to cooperate with you. This is my second experience with Itsliquid Group and I was very satisfied with the professionalism, empathy and perfect organisation of the event. I liked it very much the performance too.

LC – What are your suggestions about our services? Is there something more we can provide to artists?
FV –
I think that you could improve the social media activity and the broadcasting of the events with chosen artists. It could be nice too, to have a digital participation diploma!

LC – What is your idea about ITSLIQUID GROUP?
FV –
I think that Itsliquid will grow very much! It has what it takes to grow internationally, and I hope to grow up together in the nexts years.
