Interview: Greta Boato
Luca Curci talks with Greta Boato during the 15th Edition of VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2022, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

Emigrated from Venice to land in Marseille, in this turbulent and charming city I found new suggestions for my art. My practice is inspired by what surrounds me: the sea, the nuances, the plants, the animals but also the black spots, the defects, the problems which fill our daily life. The desire to tell about beauty, always before our eyes, is what pushes me to produce, to become aware of this delicate and exceptional world in which we live.

Luca Curci – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
Greta Boato –
I started my artistic career in 2014 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Very quickly I found my way into painting, looking for an immersive dimension in my works; this led me to expand into the large dimension, creating works that became like portals or windows that overlooked another dimension, enveloping the viewer.

LC – How did you get to your current artistic practice?
GB –
Over time, continuing to experiment with different techniques, I realized that my practice develops and grows through different mediums. Painting is my favorite tool but my work became stroger and more instense thanks to variety and

LC – Which is the role the artist plays in society? And contemporary art?
GB –
The artist and the work of art are, often also in a “visionary” way, the testimony of the contemporary era, of the historical moment we are going through. The artist, in his need for expression, is a spokesman for his era, he creates out of the desire to communicate and to leave a memory of himself.

LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
GB –
My artistic work is not focused on a specific theme, but the inspirations are recurring: the natural world, animals, colors, the beauty and fragility of the world are always the starting points of all my work.

LC – Which art themes do you pursue? What is your preferred subject, if there is any?
GB –
Ecology, attention, protection of the natural world are the themes that I want to express through my work; the desire to awaken in the viewer an attention to these issues, telling about the fragility and the surprising complexity and beauty of the world perceived through my eyes and reinterpreted in my works.

LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what do you think about the theme of the exhibition?
GB –
I found the theme of the exhibition interesting and broad wide and understandable enough to be able to involve a large number of artists and their work; I appreciate the variety of works proposed and selected by ITSLIQUID Group, different in style and technique and origin.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
GB –
I liked the idea of a contemporary fair that would bring together international artists with very different styles and experiences through a theme; reading the proposed theme, I thought of my work La Fleur created in 2018, a fluid universe of colors in which micro and macrocosms exist within each other.

LC – What is your idea about ITSLIQUID Group?
GB –
I think that ITSLIQUID GROUP is a well-organized reality whose proposed cultural events inserted within very interesting contexts.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
GB –
Yes, I enjoyed collaborating with ITSLIQUID GROUP and being part of this international fair.
