Interview: Guy Delaroque
Luca Curci talks with Guy Delaroque during OUT OF BALANCE, second appointment of CANVAS International Art Fair, at THE LINE Contemporary Art Space.
The artist paints acrylic on canvas, complying with the requirements of simplifying volumes. Lines, curves, flat areas in black and white appear like faces or shapes transformed in their own flesh into open fields. The viewer remains free to interpret those perfect abstractions. Though this free interpretation process creates confusion, contradiction and aims to a visual shock. Black and white only increases secrecy. Between light, truth, beauty, dreams and love, he participates in the invisible, the hidden, the elusive, the unknown. That duality underlines a kind of temporal suspension where anything can arise: a space, a silence, a magical den where everything is created. Guy Delaroque re-enchants the painting so that we see it as a presence, a tangible trace. Our gaze focuses on the process of creation itself, guided by the impulse and the energy of the artist.
