Interview: Herbert Stiegler
Luca Curci talks with Herbert Stiegler during the 15th Edition of VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2022, at Palazzo Bembo.

Herbert Stiegler works mainly with acrylic but also with paint and structure pastes. Various forms of expression – at the beginning most objective in the meanwhile characterized by Informell and Expressionism coming to abstract imagery. The influence of the teachers is noticeable in some paintings. The way the works are created is very different, on the one hand after an exact colour mixture and every brush stroke, on the other hand, a spontaneous procedure. The basic form is created in advance, a figure often develops along the throw line – as the result of development and transformation not readable from the initial element. Although the coloring is not accidental but deliberately chosen with regard to the psychological effect it takes a backseat to the language of form. “The art is in my head as well as in my work whereby the viewer only sees the work”

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Herbert Stiegler – Painting is like a meditation for me and its a possibility for me to express myself without words.

LC – What are you currently working on?
HS – I am working on a new series for the next exhibition

LC – How is your creative process?
HS – I have a certain idea but the real creation arises during the painting

LC – What is the most challenging part about creating your artworks?
HS – To bring my feelings and thoughts to the screen and to constantly develop myself technically as well as artistically

LC – Do you use art to express something in particular? Is it your medium of expression?
HS – Yes, I want to express my moods and my life-affirming character. I don’t make any political statements. The viewer should be put in a positive mood by looking at my works.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
HS – It is a good possibility to present myself internationally

LC – Can you explain something about the artworks you have in our exhibition?
HS – These are two different works of the last period. “The Peak” is a smooth monochrome colour surface placed next to and on top of one another and, in contrast, “Acqua in bocca”, is made of structured colours which, in combination, result in a certain depth.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
HS – Yes, it was very good cooperation.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
HS – ITSLIQUID is a new platform for me and my first impression is very good.

LC – What are your suggestions about our services? Is there something more we can provide to artists?
HS – For the moment I have no wishes or suggestions.
