Interview: I Ting Heather Ho
Luca Curci talks with I Ting Heather Ho during the 16th Edition of CONTEMPORARY VENICE 2025 at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello in Venice.

Heather, an artist from Taiwan, draws inspiration from her homeland, a magical island deeply rooted in five thousand years of Chinese culture and enriched by Western influences, Japanese traditions, and the heritage of its aboriginal communities. This unique cultural blend provided the foundation for her artistic growth. Her journey took a significant leap through studying product design in the United States as part of an overseas elite training program and earning a master’s degree in art in the United Kingdom. These experiences helped her establish a strong foundation of logical thinking and self-worth, becoming essential nutrients for her personal and creative evolution. Now based in Mexico for the past four years, Heather uses her paintbrush and music to document her observations, feelings, and questions inspired by this vibrant land. Her work focuses on capturing the vibrations of human emotion – the priceless treasure we all carry – and translating these unseen but profound energies into the brushstrokes, colors, and stories on her canvases. The rich history and dynamic culture of Mexico inspire her current chapter, reflected in the power and harmony of her artwork.

In addition to being an artist, Heather is an adventurer who has traveled to over 20 countries and climbed countless mountain peaks. Her journeys have carried her from the lush mountains of Taiwan to the frigid Everest Base Camp in Nepal, to the top five peaks in Mexico, and to the awe-inspiring ranges of Peru, Ecuador, and Guatemala. These adventures, alongside the life lessons learned in Mexico and the United States, have left an indelible mark on her spirit, strengthening her resolve and inspiring her artistry. The themes of Heather’s work often explore the depths of human emotion, the discovery and affirmation of self-worth, the myriad expressions of love, and the intricate conflicts between desire, emotion, and the self. Through her art, she engages with these issues, creating a dialogue with viewers that fosters connection and introspection.

Luca Curci – When has your practice been founded?
I Ting Heather Ho – From a young age, I have been passionate about studying human psychology and behavior, striving to understand these complex aspects of the human experience. The intricate emotions and mental processes of individuals are what make society so unique and dynamic. My experiences in both the United States and the United Kingdom have honed my logical thinking and communication skills, allowing me to articulate and artistically capture my creative themes more effectively. In recent years, my travels and adventures across various countries, moments of connection with nature, and the challenges of adapting to new environments have profoundly shaped my work. Encounters with different cultures, along with the exchanges and conflicts I’ve observed between people, have greatly influenced the themes and characteristics of my creations.

LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
ITHH – Being an artist has always required great perseverance and concentration. However, this is even
more evident in today’s society. With the advancement of technology and the abundance of information, more people are finding it easier to succeed through their outstanding abilities and channels. This will not erase the efforts of these people, but it will make it easier to compare the difficulties and challenges others have in pursuing their dreams. Finding one’s original intention amidst these chaotic voices, persevering, and continuing to seek to be. Per ways to grow without giving up has become increasingly challenging – but also more meaningful. It is equally important to use one’s power to convey positive messages to society and the audience.

LC – What is the most challenging part about creating your artwork?
ITHH – The most difficult part of my creative process is capturing ideas creatively and conveying them
to the audience completely and clearly. For me, creation is a form of communication. Clearly expressing what I want to say or the theme I want to explore has always been a central focus of my work. I must have a clear understanding of what I am doing so that the audience can interpret and respond with a variety of ideas and perspectives after receiving the message.

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
ITHH – My inspiration comes from life, and I firmly believe that experiencing life is the best source of
creation. Truly living means being in the moment and savoring the details of what we see and feel. By focusing on and cherishing everything we experience and endure, and then reflecting on these moments, we can uncover some of the greatest sources of inspiration.

ITHH – There is strong emotion and power in my work; they express the questions from the heart in the
most direct, passionate, powerful, and emotional way.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
ITHH – So far, they have done their best to address my concerns and clarify any points that needed attention. They have also been very helpful in assisting with the challenges we encountered. I truly appreciate this opportunity and their efforts.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
ITHH – ITSLIQUID is a platform with rich resources and information. Through sharing and exposure, it
enables artists and creatives to connect with others who excel in the same field, fostering
collaboration and growth within the art world.
