Interview: Ivana Babic
Luca Curci
talks with Ivana Babic during FRAGMENTED IDENTITIES, second appointment of BORDERS Art Fair 2020, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

“Enduring artistic quest, eagerness for creative expression and my living ambience inspired choice of motives, techniques and coloring in my works. Collages and Letraset are distinctive reflection of mine believes. They represent logistic differentiation of external appearance through which the inner spirit is epitomized”.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Ivana Babic –
Art is like my own pastry shop. As an artist, I have a freedom to create, consume and share my art as sweets.

LC – Which subject are you working on?
IB –
I am working on the expression of the soul identity, reflected in the words and numbers that my Letraset portraits are composed of or simply put, the subject is portrait of the soul.

LC – What is the most challenging part about creating your artworks?
IB –
Ideas are asking me to be manifested in many different techniques and medias. The challenge is to find the most vibrant idea and to choose appropriate media for it. When I find it, I silence all other ideas and concentrate on it.

LC – Do visitors’ suggestions enrich yourself and your art?
IB –
I wouldn’t say suggestions but visitor’s reactions are enriching me as an artist and fuel my enthusiasm.

LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
IB –
It is exciting! There are so many possibilities for creative expression and presentation of the art, available to everyone. In the same time, it is more difficult to find original approach and interesting technique, to stand out but not to follow trends.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the festival or as a part of preexisting works?
IB –
The artwork presented was intentionally created for this festival. My idea was to send a Letraset portrait of the young English guy who never visited Italy, although he is partially Italian. In this way I wanted to highlight undiscovered fragment of his identity on genetic level and arbitrary meaning of borders in modern world.

LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what do you think about the theme of the festival?
IB –
I prize the idea to choose the festival as the organizational form. I felt the goose bumps when I saw the theme of the festival. It is in total alignment with my work. In Letraset portraits, composed from the words, numbers and symbols, I am exploring fragmented identity of modern man and questioning if is the identity sum total of all its fragments.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
IB –
The Platform is very proactive and provides a great support for the promotion of artists and their artworks. I like that it has global influence in the presentation of wide range of art forms.

LC – What are your suggestions about our services? Is there something more we can provide to artists?
IB –
I am quite satisfied with your service and I have one suggestion. As the current situation has prevented me to come to the exhibition I miss the feeling of atmosphere. I would like to see on the social network more photos of artwork being exhibited, like virtual exhibition.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
IB –
I was honored to be invited to participate. I am seeing a great opportunity and looking forward to our future cooperation.
