Interview: Jessica Kewei
Luca Curci talks with Jessica Kewei, a user experience and product designer who blends storytelling, technology, and visual clarity to create engaging and functional experiences.
Jessica stands at the forefront of technology and design, engaging with emergent technologies to build and found products with impact. Throughout her career, she has applied her design expertise to diverse projects across various industries, solidifying her ability to solve complex challenges. Her approach blends creative problem-solving with an intuitive understanding of user needs and technological possibilities. She crafts solutions that are highly functional, imaginative, and engaging, designing experiences that resonate deeply. Her creative style merges charming aesthetics with robust functionality, influenced by her graphic design background and programming skills. Storytelling is also central to her work, creating visually delightful and emotionally engaging experiences that captivate users.

Luca Curci – What are you currently working on?
Jessica Kewei – I’m currently prototyping a mobile concept, a “memory bridge” that pulls photos, voice notes, and location data into short, story-like reels. The goal is to help people relive forgotten moments without having to sort through thousands of files. Right now I’m validating the core flow-import, auto-curate, gentle prompt-before scaling to a full app.

LC – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
JK – I started in graphic design, where I fell in love with color, typography, and the power of a well-placed pixel. That craft foundation pulled me into UX, a place where visual storytelling meets problem-solving. As my artistic interests evolved, I was drawn to the realm of UX/UI design , sparked by a desire to create interactive experiences that solve problems for people. This transition from graphic design to UX has been the most influential experience for my work. It solidified my human-centered design approach, allowing me to transform complex challenges into accessible and delightful solutions for users.

LC – Is there an unrealised or unrealisable project, even a crazy one, that you would like to work on?
JK – Yes, I’ve been wanting to find the time to work on a personal project that fully combines design, code, and AI. I’m very excited about engaging with emergent technologies, especially the potential of AI in design, and I want to explore that potential in a hands-on way. I’ve been a bit busy lately, but it’s a goal of mine to eventually create a product from the ground up that leverages my skills in both design and programming.

LC – What are the three hashtags essential to define your poetics that you could not give up?
JK – FutureForward – design for what’s coming, not just what is.
HumanCentered – every pixel starts with people.
VisualStorytelling – craft details that speak louder than words.

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
JK – I start with real frustration, mine or a user’s, and sketch the fix. My focus is on understanding the core problem and user needs, then crafting solutions that are highly functional and solve complex challenges.
LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
JK – Having my own work recognized by ITSLIQUID GROUP has enhanced my visibility within the design community and opened doors to new opportunities. I believe platforms like ITSLIQUID can offer that same crucial visibility, helping artists connect with a global audience and find new avenues for their creative careers.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
JK – Yes, it’s been a wonderful experience. Thank you for the thoughtful questions and for the opportunity to share my work and passion for design on the platform.
