Interview: Julija Korlovsek
Luca Curci talks with Julija Karlovsek during VISIONS, second appointment of CANVAS INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2023, held in Venice, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

Driven by a deep passion for art, the author made the brave decision to leave behind her legal and business career and embark on a new and exciting journey. Fueled by a thirst for creativity and a desire to explore new horizons, she embraced the unknown with open arms, eager to see where this path might lead her. After moving from Slovenia to Switzerland, the author found inspiration in the rich cultural tapestry of her surroundings, drawing upon the contrasting landscapes and traditions of both countries to inform her artistic vision. Her works are a celebration of the connection between these two worlds, a testament to the power of cross-cultural exchange and the beauty of diversity.

At the heart of the author’s art is a deep reverence for women and the transformative power of feminine energy. Her canvases are a testament to the sensual, nurturing, and creative power of the feminine spirit, inviting viewers to embrace the full spectrum of their own inner beauty and strength. Using gold in all its myriad forms, the artist weaves a rich tapestry of contrasting textures and hues, each brushstroke a reflection of the complex interplay between light and shadow, beauty and darkness, love and heartache. In the author’s works, femininity is not just a concept, but a force that flows through all of us, imbuing every aspect of our lives with beauty, passion, and tenderness.

Through her art, she invites us to tap into this divine energy, awaken our senses and embrace the full potential of our own unique gifts and talents. In the end, the author’s art is a celebration of life itself, a testament to the boundless potential of the human spirit and the transformative power of creativity. Whether through bold, sweeping brushstrokes or delicate, nuanced details, she reminds us that the beauty of the world lies in the contrasts that surround us, waiting to be discovered and explored.

Luca Curci – What is the trigger that leads you to paint?
Julija Karlovsek – As an artist, my trigger for painting is the raw power of expression. It is the release of the energy that accumulates in my soul and flows through my body. With every brushstroke, I enter a state of Zen, where the universal energy merges with the canvas, creating a symphony of colors and emotions. In the process of painting, I find healing. It is a cathartic experience where I can pour out my emotions onto the canvas, letting go of any burdens that weigh me down. It enriches my spirit, nourishing my soul with a sense of fulfilment and purpose. Above all, painting brings me joy. It fills my heart with pure happiness, as I witness the creation of something unique and beautiful with each stroke. It is a gift that fills my life with meaning and gives my soul wings to soar. It is a canvas that captures the flow of universal energy through my body, translated into a symphony of colors that resonate with my soul. It is an ode to the healing, enriching, and uplifting nature of painting, and a reminder of the pure joy that comes from creating art.

LC – How much has the city/country in which you grew up/born affected your work as an artist?
JK – Growing up in an environment that valued “practical sciences,” I followed the path that was expected of me. However, as I entered my teenage years, I slowly discovered a hidden talent that had been dormant within me – painting. It was a revelation that brought me closer to my roots, as I learned that my grandfather was a renowned artist and art collector. Exploring my grandfather’s works and books, I felt a deep connection and a sense of kinship with the world of art. I realized that I had inherited his artistic genes, and there was no turning back. The fire of passion was ignited within me, and I could no longer resist the pull of my creative soul. With bated breath, I took the leap, leaving my job as a lawyer behind and fully embracing my destiny as an artist. It was a decision that required courage, but I was determined to pursue my true calling, no matter the challenges. As I picked up the brushes and dipped them into the colors that danced on my palette, I felt a sense of liberation. It was as if I had unlocked a part of myself that had been longing to break free. My soul soared with joy as I unleashed my creativity onto the canvas, giving form to the images that had been swirling in my mind.

LC – What do you think about art on social media? Are they turning into the new showcases of contemporary art?
JK – In this digital age, the use of social networks has transformed the landscape of art, making communication easier, faster, and more targeted than ever before. Personally, I am captivated by the limitless possibilities it brings, as the entire world of art is now at my fingertips. With just a few taps and clicks, I can connect with fellow artists, art collectors, architects, galleries, and art enthusiasts from around the globe. It’s a virtual art community that transcends borders and time zones, creating a vibrant and dynamic space for artistic exchange and collaboration. Through social networks, I have been able to showcase my art to a wider audience, gaining exposure and recognition that would have been much harder to achieve through traditional means alone. I can share my creative process, my inspirations, and my stories with others, inviting them into my artistic journey. Furthermore, social networks have opened doors to collaborations with architects, galleries, and other art professionals, providing exciting opportunities for showcasing my art in different settings and reaching new audiences. The targeted communication and networking possibilities have revolutionized the way artists engage with the art world, bringing a fresh perspective and endless opportunities for growth.

LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
JK – In today’s world, the possibilities for artists are truly boundless, with unprecedented accessibility to create and sell their works all over the globe. It’s a time like no other, when artists can harness the power of modern tools and technology to bring their creative visions to life. As an artist who embraces the advantages of this era, I am thrilled by the opportunities that abound. With just a few clicks, I can showcase my art to a worldwide audience, reaching collectors, art enthusiasts, and potential buyers from every corner of the earth. The power of the internet has transformed the art world, opening doors to global markets that were once unimaginable. Through online platforms, social media, and e-commerce, I can create my own online gallery, curate my portfolio, and connect directly with collectors and art buyers. It’s a level of accessibility and empowerment that has never been so readily available, allowing me to share my art with the world on my own terms. The tools and technologies available today have also revolutionized the creative process itself. From digital painting to 3D printing, from virtual reality to augmented reality, artists can push the boundaries of traditional mediums and explore new frontiers of artistic expression. It’s a playground of innovation and experimentation, where imagination knows no bounds.

This is truly a golden age for artists who embrace the possibilities of the modern era. It’s a time where creativity and technology converge, enabling artists to thrive in ways that were once only a distant dream. It’s an era where artists can break through limitations, connect with diverse audiences, and shape their own artistic destiny. “The Golden Age of Artistic Possibilities” is a celebration of this exciting era, where artists have unprecedented access to global markets, cutting-edge tools, and limitless opportunities for creative exploration. It’s a canvas that captures the spirit of innovation, empowerment, and boundless potential that defines the modern art world. It’s a reminder that today is a remarkable time to be an artist, where the only limit is one’s own imagination.

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
JK – As an artist, my muse and inspiration are women – the embodiment of feminine energy and power. In a world dominated by male energy and actions, I find solace and inspiration in the counterbalance of the feminine essence. Women are an inexhaustible source of beauty, wisdom, grace, love, and eroticism. They possess a captivating aura that radiates from within, drawing me in with their unique charms and allure. Every woman is beautiful in her own way, with her external and internal beauty intertwined in a mesmerizing dance of colors, shapes, and emotions. From the gentle curves of a woman’s body to the depths of her soul, I am captivated by the multifaceted nature of femininity.

The way a woman moves, speaks, and expresses herself is a symphony of art in motion. Her presence is both commanding and delicate, exuding a sense of strength and vulnerability that fascinates me endlessly. “The Irresistible Power of Feminine Energy in Art” is a tribute to the boundless beauty and power of women. It’s a celebration of femininity in all its forms, an ode to the unique and awe-inspiring qualities that women bring to the world. It’s a reminder of the profound impact that women have on my art and my life, and a testament to the everlasting inspiration that they provide.
