Interview: Karni
Luca Curci talks with Karni during FUTURE LANDSCAPES, third appointment of BORDERS ART FAIR, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

“Homo Sapiens is dual by nature. I believe we are endowed with the consciousness to be aware of and accept free will. My choice is the cultivation of light and the sublimation of darkness. Memories are the starting point in my artworks, observations of the present with a vision of the future. By staying outside of the timeline in a state close to flow and meditation, my paintings are born. Practicing Yoga for 7 years, I learned to manage attention, and dive into a special, meditative state, in which there is no distracting noise – evaluation, criticism, condemnation, or fear. When nothing distracts from the process of creation and all my experience and energy directed to the process of creation.”

Luca Curci – Which artists have somehow had an influence on your work?
Karni – I think all artists whose biographies, information I read about, and works I’ve seen subconsciously influence my work. At age 18 I read the autobiography/ biography of Salvador Dali, later Francis Bacon, Marina Abramovic etc.

LC – How much has the city/country in which you grew up/born affected your work as an artist?
K – In my homeland, there were no many distractions or ways to entertain, and nature and the Japanese martial arts I studied, I found as sources of inspiration.

LC – How is your creative process?
K – Since I practice yoga and meditation for about 8 years, together with martial arts in past, I am very concentrated with the direction of my energy and attention into the process, usually with no analyzing, it’s a flow, a meditation and I would say the mystical process in a way. I use different approaches and every time explore something new.

LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
K – Yes: Acceptance of free will; Relationships with oneself and the world around; Consciousness and awareness; A sense of the Divine and connection to it; An individual as part of the universe and its influence on various levels.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the exhibition or as a part of preexisting works?
K – Thank you! It was created as preexisting artwork.

LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what do you think about the theme of the exhibition?
K – The future is what we create, and I think an exhibition with the name “Future Landscapes” can remind people to be conscious of my previous words and also feel them with inspiration to create their future landscapes.

LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
K – For me is one of the most beautiful ways of existence.

LC – What do you think about the organization of our event?
K – It’s good, my best wishes for your future projects!

LC – Would you suggest a collaboration with us? What do you think about our services?
K – Yes, I could recommend it to more people.
