Interview: Kasia Davies
Luca Curci talks with Kasia Davies, winner of the INTERNATIONAL CONTEST 18TH EDITION.

Kasia Davies is a versatile Polish-born artist based in London, known for her vibrant acrylic paintings, interior design projects, and creative work across various disciplines. A finalist in the YICCA 2025 International Contemporary Art Contest, her art is featured in major Polish auction houses and private collections across Europe and the US. With a background in theatre studies, business, and interior design, Kasia blends artistic expression with professional expertise. Her work, heavily influenced by Pop Art and Impressionism-focuses on bold colors, luminous reflections, and themes of female beauty and water as symbols of strength and serenity. In addition to painting, she is active as a set designer, music manager, and studio owner, with her artworks also appearing on whisky labels, tattoos, and wallpapers. Balancing life between Poland and Spain, she continues to leave a personal, expressive mark on both the art and design worlds.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Kasia Davies – For me, art is a way to express myself and my emotions, and to communicate them to others through the visual language of painting. It’s about capturing moments-those unique, fleeting instances-and freezing them in time within vibrant, expressive works. Each piece reflects a feeling, a story, or a memory, and the challenge is to convey that emotional depth in a way that resonates with others. Art, for me, is a form of connection-a bridge between the artist and the viewer, where emotions are shared and understood beyond words.

LC – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
KD – I am a multifaceted artist, painter, and interior designer, originally from Poland but based in London for most of my life. My educational background is as diverse as my artistic path. I hold a degree in theatre studies, developed my business skills at the London School of Management, and completed an interior design course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. My style is strongly influenced by Pop Art, evident in bold color contrasts and playful, non-naturalistic forms, while also drawing from Impressionism through spontaneous brushwork, luminous reflections, and vibrant shadows. I focus on portraying female beauty in peaceful, emotional moments, often using water as a recurring symbol of strength, mystery, and inspiration. My artistic journey has led me across Europe, with group exhibitions and works now held in private collections in Poland, Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA. I am also a proud finalist of the YICCA 2025 International Contemporary Art Contest.

LC – Among the several techniques you use, which one do you prefer to practice and which are most compelling for you?
KS – I really enjoy experimenting with acrylic painting. What draws me in is the ability to work with bold colors, light effects, and especially water reflections-these elements allow me to create dynamic and vibrant compositions. I also love working with textures on the canvas, playing with structure and depth, and I’m not afraid to explore abstraction in some pieces. That said, figurative painting is where I feel most at home. It’s my domain, and it allows me to capture the human form, emotions, and stories in a way that feels both personal and universal. I think the balance between bold abstraction and figurative representation gives my work a unique edge.

LC – What do you think about art on social media? Are they turning into the new showcases of contemporary art?
KD – Social media has revolutionized how art is shared and experienced, offering artists a global platform to showcase their work without relying on traditional galleries. Platforms like Instagram act as digital galleries, enabling direct connections with collectors, curators, and audiences. While this enhances visibility and accessibility, it can’t fully replicate the physical experience of art, where texture, scale, and presence matter. Despite this limitation, social media plays a crucial role in contemporary art, fostering dialogue, inclusivity, and innovation through virtual exhibitions and real-time engagement, ultimately complementing rather than replacing traditional art spaces.

LC – Is there an unrealised or unrealisable project, even a crazy one, that you would like to work on?
KD – I’ve always had big dreams for my art. It has already been featured in films and TV adverts. I never imagined that my paintings would become tattoo designs, adorning the bodies of people who collect them, but they did!. Similarly, I never thought my artwork would end up on whiskey labels, but it receintly has. However, there’s still one project i’ve always dreamed of: seeing my art featured on clothing by a fashionable designer or even in a trendy chain of stores. I’ve always wanted my paintings to be part of fashion or streetwear, merging the world of contemporary art with wearable culture. If an opportunity like this came my way, I would absolutely embrace the chance to collaborate and bring that vision to life. I love the idea of pushing the boundaries of where my art can go and how it can connect with people in different ways. And, if someone like Johnny Depp wore it? I’d be absolutely over the moon.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?

KD – Absolutely, I really did enjoy the experience! Winning the ITSLIQUID INTERNATIONAL CONTEST – 18TH EDITION was a fantastic milestone for me. It’s such an honor to have my work recognised, and it gives me an amazing opportunity to showcase my art to a wider audience in incredible cities like Venice, Rome, London or Barcelona. The whole process has been incredibly rewarding, and I’ve appreciated the chance to collaborate with such a professional and passionate team. It’s been an exciting journey so far and I’m grateful for the exposure and the connections I’ve made through this contest.
